Catherine E. Magowan (nee Hegarty)

Catherine E. Magowan,(nee Hegarty), 88, affectionately known as “Cass” to her family and friends, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2017 at Fair Acres Geriatric Center. She was a longtime resident of Norwood, Pa. and was a former resident of Philadelphia.

Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Catherine Hegarty.

Cass worked in the banking business in the area for many years until her retirement in 1993.

She was a longtime active member of the New Greenwich Light Baptist Church on Oregon Avenue in Philadelphia, where her late husband served as pastor for many years.

Cass was devoted to her family and her family was her life. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Cass was preceded death by her husband in of 63 years, George “Chuck” Magowan; her daughter, Eileen DiPietro; and her brother, George Hegarty.

Survivors: Cass is survived by her children, Elizabeth (John) Gorman, John (Deborah) Magowan, and Kathleen (William) Herbert; her grandchildren, John, Brooke, Kelly, Matthew, Andrew, and Mark; her 5 Great-grandchildren; and her brothers, John, Paul, and Edward Hegarty.

Funeral Service: Will be held on Saturday, March 25th, at 10:30 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074. Visitation: Will be on Saturday from 9 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at the funeral home. Burial: Will be in Eastlawn Cemetery in Milmont Park, Pa.
