SPACED OUT
I watched “2001: A Space Odyssey” this week and it just screamed out at me how short people’s attention spans are nowadays. If it was made today, it probably wouldn’t make it into mainstream theaters. There’s hardly any dialogue, no soundtrack with songs from big pop starts. It’s considered one of the best movies of all time, but if it came out today it would have no audience. People can’t focus anymore. That’s why we have all these accidents from texting and driving. It’s too much to ask to have people devote their attention to safely operating a 2,000-pound object filled with flammable liquid.
A SIMPLE SOLUTION
“Pay Up” wants to know who’s going to pay for Medicare because it’s going broke. Well, if the Republicans will tax the rich like they should in this country, Medicare would be very solvent for at least a century.
LEARN TO DRIVE
“You’re Killing Us” forgot one thing: These people that buy these huge trucks and SUVs should learn how to drive them. When I drive through my residential area, it’s amazing how many people in these ultra-big vehicles drive down the middle of the street, then when they see you come in the other direction they get all upset with you because you won’t pull over up to the curb almost so they can get by. How about you learn how to drive them so you don’t need a 4-foot cushion between you and parked cars?
BLEED ‘EM DRY
A guest column by Republican State Sen. Mike Regan says the public pension crisis is threatening our state’s future, and that’s a lie. What’s threatening our state’s future, just like what’s threatening our country’s future, is the fact the Republicans refuse to tax corporations and they refuse to tax the rich in our state and in our country. If they would do that, then things would look much brighter for our state’s future and our country’s future.
COAL IN HIS HEAD
At rally in Louisville last night, Donald Trump says that we’re going to put coal miners back to work. While the rest of the world is getting away from things like coal, Donald Trump wants us to have more coal. How stupid is that?

CUT THAT CHECK
To “Bob From Sharon Hill” – or should I say “Caring, Sharing Bob From Sharing Hill – here’s your chance to get out your checkbook and start writing checks to PBS, the arts and sciences foundations, the EPA. They’re all getting cut like they should be. Obama ran the military into the ground while spending $10 trillion. So, “Bob,” practice what you preach and get out the checkbook. Oh, while you’re at, send some money to public schools. They can find a way to waste it, too. MR. TOM IN LINWOOD
BLAME HILLARY, NOT PUTIN
I’ve been watching these hearings on Capitol Hill. It seems to be that the Democrats are extremely angry over the loss of the election. They’re trying to find a Russian connection. Believe me when I tell you, Hillary lost it. She didn’t need the Russians. She was a bad candidate with no message. That’s why she lost. The Russians did uncover some Democratic dirty tricks, but that wasn’t going to lose the election. Hillary was just a bad candidate. Face up to it.
THE END GOAL
I understand why Republicans want to cut public funding for the arts and sciences: They don’t want people to be cultured. They want people to be as ignorant and as stupid as they are.
HURTING THEMSELVES
An article in the Times noted that “for many older Americans, costs rise under GOP health care plan.” These are the same seniors who vote Republican time in and time out. Why do these people keep voting Republican when the Republicans do nothing but hurt them? It makes absolutely no sense.
