Palis plates 5 as Garnet Valley romps past Unionville
Cole Palis provided as big a spark as Garnet Valley could’ve envisioned in its season opener.
The leadoff man was a homer shy of the cycle among his three hits, driving in five runs in a 12-2 nonleague win over Unionville.
John McLoughlin also doubled and scored twice, while nine-hitter Danny Sweeney plated three times and collected two hits. Matt Burba drove in a pair of runners and scored twice for the Jags, who used five pitchers in the five-inning game.
In other nonleague action: SPRINGFIELD 5, CARDINAL O’HARA 1 >> Tom Quinn scored twice, and Brandon DiChiacchio and Andrew Todaro collected two hits apiece as the Cougars won the neighborhood rivalry. Dave Strawley worked four shutout innings in relief of Matt Conran to get the win, striking out six and scattering two hits.
Isaiah Hammond doubled and scored for O’Hara, driven home by Brian Bromley. HAVERFORD SCHOOL 6, NEUMANN-GORETTI 0 >> In the battle of last year’s PAISAA and PIAA Class AAA champs, the Fords came out on top behind five innings of one-hit ball from Justin Meyer. The Richmond commit helped his cause with two doubles and two RBIs.
