100 Years Ago – 1917:

Declaring he was being robbed of the winnings at stake in the midst of an extraordin­ary craps game in which 18 men were participat­ing at Lamokin railroad camp, a man with a big two-pronged fork lunged at another. In the heat of the drunken brawl the former fatally plunged the prongs of the fork into latter. The victim died within a few minutes and his body was removed to the morgue to await word from his relatives at Jacksonvil­le, Fla.

75 Years Ago – 1942: S. Zappala, 414 W. Third St., Chester, has the following “suburban specials” available: Single in Farraday Park, 639 Kedron Ave., with six rooms, bath, hot water heat and about two acres of ground for $5,500; a bungalow in Chester Plaza, 39 Dutton Mill Road, four rooms, bath, oil heat and garage for $4,000. John G. Kershaw, in the Gibson Building at 23 E. Fifth St., has 434 E. 20th St. available for sale at $6,500.

50 Years Ago – 1967: Five charges have been brought against a Chester Township motorist who smashed into the rear of a police car parked on Concord Road about 2:30 a.m. The police car was stopped at the side of the road with its red warning light spinning while Officer Kenneth Hunt was assisting a motorist who had run out of gas. The impact pushed the police vehicle into the car out of gas. The motorist has been charged with drunken driving, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, driving too fast for conditions and reckless driving.

25 Years Ago – 1992:

A convicted murderer and rapist was effectivel­y removed as Chester Mayor Barbara BohannanSh­eppard’s administra­tive assistant at a stormy meeting which saw the once-unified Democratic council majority shatter in front of more than 100 people. Council members Annette Burton and Chuck McLaughlin, both Democrats, voted to eliminate the aide’s $32,500 salary. Democratic Mayor Bohannan-Sheppard opposed the motion. Republican­s Ed Zetusky and Steve McKellar were absent.

10 Years Ago – 2007:

West Whiteland police said they arrested a 63-year-old San Antonio, Texas, man in a minivan for suspicion of DUI after he was stopped by police for a traffic violation. Detective Scott Pezick said the man’s DUI record dates to a 1982 New York arrest. He has two DUI arrests in New York, two in Texas, and one in each of Georgia, Indiana, Iowa and, now, Pennsylvan­ia.
