Sound Off: Call 484-521-3180 DEEP THOUGHTS

-

A DESIGN PROBLEM

While I agree in spirit with the callers that the road isn’t the “Killer Conchester,” the drivers are, I can’t help but think that a good percentage of dangerous drivers on that route are responsible drivers the rest of the time and have been pushed to the brink by a stretch of road never intended to carry the kind of traffic. I don’t think going to four lanes won’t remedy everything, but it’s better than leaving it the way it is.

WARM YOUR HEART

For all the problems in the world, it was nice to see most Sound Offs about the last snowfall were thanking road crews and other people instead of complaining about ice flying off the roofs of other driver’s vehicle.

I WANT MY MEDICARE

I see the Democrats want Medicare for all. So for 45 years, I worked and paid into Medicare. Now they want to put everybody on Medicare, which will me more of a reduction in benefits. No, keep Medicaid and Obamacare. Leave Medicare for those who paid into it. Either way, we still have to pay for supplements to Medicare.

HERE IT COMES

If Republicans can’t get a viable alternative to Obamacare through, then sadly it’ll probably come down to what I’ve suspected was the Democrat’s endgame all along: Have the system collapse and put us on a single-payer system. Then we’re all in trouble.

Trump and the health care bill made me think of Shakespeare’s line from “Macbeth,” “It is a tale, told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.” JUST SAYING IN ASTON

THEY’RE KILLERS

Concerning all those old men down there in D.C. posing as Republicans that stabbed the Obamacare repeal in the back: Et tu, Brute? BEWARE THE 24th of MARCH

WHY WE DIE

To “Highways Don’t Kill,” the way the Conchester Highway was designed with no concrete barrier down the middle – that’s why people have been killed there. They never installed the concrete barrier and divided the highway, and that’s not the drivers’ fault.

READ THIS

To “Prospect Park Shines,” it does and it was a good way to spend tax dollars. But what I can’t figure out is all the times that I’ve called in to the Times and told them how important it is to have policemen and what would happen without the police, that never gets printed. What would happen if they all went on strike? The Times can print things about cleaning up trash in neighbors or dogs messing on people’s yards. They never put anything good about the police and what we do without them. Ask yourself what would happen if for one day or one week they went on strike? We would all be in big trouble. BOB

WAIT AND SEE

“Highways Don’t Kill” and these other callers made me wonder: You always think of civil engineers, highway planning officials, etc. as being these dry, milquetoast kind of people. What’s it like when they start getting into serious arguments about the design of an embankment affecting soil erosion and long term stability and things like that? Do the pocket protectors and protractors start flying across the room? I’d like to be a fly on the wall there.

A DRY SPELL ENDS

So I was watching the health care bill situation unfold Friday and people were saying “oh, what happened to Trump and deal making,” etc. It didn’t work this time, but I have to say it was refreshing to see the executive branch reach out and try to build consensus among different factions of legislators again. I don’t W. or Obama bothering to do that much. It’s been a long 20 years since Bill and Newt.

AND WHO’S THE CLOWN?

I was really disappointed to hear that Ringling Brothers & Barnum and Bailey Circus was folding. I had many happy memories as a child going to the circus. It’s a shame. But we still have the three ring circus that is the Trump White House, so that’s a relief. OLD TIMER ON OXFORD ROAD
