Go back in time at Ridley library

RIDLEY TOWNSHIP >> Visit the Ridley Township library, 100 E. MacDade Blvd., Folsom, at 6:30 p.m. March 29, for “Real Old Time Photos That Will Give You Nightmares.” Rochelle Christopher from Victorian Vanities presents the program that shows that some of what passed for everyday life 75 or 100 years ago would send people today screaming and running in the other direction. When those scenes are captured on grainy old-school film, it becomes the stuff of nightmares. Christopher shares with some unique facts about the Victorian Era, as she takes us on a pictorial walk through bizarre photographs from another age. Step back in time and enjoy this interactive program focused on an offbeat part of our history. Victorian Vanities is a federally qualified nonprofit corporation whose mission is to teach people about American history.

The library welcomes back Jeffrey LaMonica, Assistant Professor of History and Global Studies Program Coordinator at Delaware County Community College, for “World War I Tactics and Weaponry” at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 3. Prof. LaMonica brings in some World War I artifacts for display during the presentation. The four years of the Great War, as it was then known, saw unprecedented levels of carnage and destruction, thanks to grueling trench warfare and the introduction of modern weaponry such as machine guns, tanks and chemical weapons. World War I revolutionized the tactics used on the battlefield. Planes, tanks and trenches all made a huge impact on how World War I played out.

The above programs are free; registration is required. To register, visit the library, call 610-583-0593 or email reference@ridleylibrary.org
