McNeely nets 100th as Strath Haven mauls Marple

Nicole McNeely scored twice to reach 100 goals for her career as Strath Haven defeated Marple Newtown, 14-2, Thursday in Central League girls lacrosse action.

McNeely was one of nine Panthers to find the back of the net, with Sophie Haase leading the way with four. Haven ran out to an 11-2 halftime lead and cruised from there.

Kristen Rutecki and Katie Nunan scored for the Tigers.

Elsewhere in the Central League: GARNET VALLEY 15, HAVERFORD HIGH 5 >> The Jaguars spread the wealth on offense, with seven players accounting for the 15 goals. Abby Kalish led the way with three while Riley Delaney, Madi McKee, Kamryn McNeal, Kara Nealon and Regan Nealon had two each. Not to be outdone, goalie Lauren Kinnee made 14 saves for Garnet. On the other side, Lydia Hetznecker had a fine game in defeat, scoring four goals for the Fords.

In the Del Val League: INTERBORO 9, ACADEMY PARK 3 >> Experience and youth both made their mark in the Bucs’ victory. Freshman Morgan Reed and senior Madison Hengey each contribute­d two goals and two assists to the Interboro cause. Hengey’s fellow senior Moriah Marr was strong in goal as well, making 10 saves.

Riley Street was the only Knight to beat Marr. Terae Mason made 11 saves in the loss.

In the Ches-Mont League: KENNETT 23, SUN VALLEY 2 >> Alexis Colasante made a valiant effort in goal for the Vanguards, seeing 34 shots and turning away 11. But she was beaten by a strong Blue Demons attack led by Jen Schaen (four goals) and Vicky Gallivan (three goals, two assists). Liz Johnson and Makenzie McGinnis each scored for Sun Valley, with Johnson controllin­g five draws and McGinnis three.

Boys Track

The damp conditions

not bother Penn Wood’s Tyreem Welton. The senior won two individual events and was on two winning relays as the Patriots opened the Del Val League season with a 105-33 victory over Chichester.

Welton won the 100 and 200, led off the 4 x 100 relay and was on the winning 4 x 400 relay. Dennis Manyeah showed his versatilit­y by winning the 300 hurdles, 400 and leading off the 4 x 400.

Daron Rice won the discus and was second in the shot put for Chi.

Girls Track

Tatyiana Laylor dominated the sprints to lead Penn Wood to a 102-37 Del Val League triumph over Chichester.

Laylor won the 100, 200 and 400 and led off the winning 4 x 400 relay. Janae Pitt (100 and 300 hurdles, long jump) and Kyra Carroll (4 x 800, 4 x 400, 3,200) were triple winners, while Fatou Seck took first in the long jump and triple jump for the Patriots.

Giovanna Cruet (high jump), Desiree Pannah (shot put) and Kam Bradley (discus) were the individual winners for Chichester.

Boys Tennis

Moving up to first was no problem for Sun Gabe Boccella.

Bocella won the first varsity win of his career, yet the Vanguards still needed a three-set victory at fourth doubles by David German and Anthony Gonzalez for a 4-3 nonleague win over Glen Mills.

Boccella won 6-0, 6-3 for his first win, and German and Gonzalez came back to beat Joshua Luciano and Jermaine Beverly 6-7 (7-4), 6-4, 6-4 to clinch the victory. Sun Valley won three of the four doubles matches.

Chris Stinson and Destin Dortch won at second and third singles, respective­ly, for Glen Mills.

In the Catholic League: CARDINAL O’HARA 5, ROMAN CATHOLIC 0 >> Kevin Lutz and Jason Haley stayed undefeated

singles Valley’s with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at second doubles. Andrew Shuda and Ryan Shields lost just one game each at first and second doubles, respective­ly.

In Central League action: RADNOR 7, HAVERFORD HIGH 0 >> Max Safanov, Alex Weis and Jonathan Davis swept the singles in straight sets to help the Raiders (3-2 overall, 2-1 league) bounce back from a loss to Conestoga. Safanov did not lose a game at first singles. Radnor won all seven matches in straight sets.

Scott Kaplan and Sammy Ortiz put up a fight at third singles for Haverford before falling to George Hu and Chris Rinehart, 6-3, 6-1. STRATH HAVEN 6, UPPER DARBY 1>> Ben Troutman and George Steinke, Harrison Hotham and Cole Wirth, Justin Snyder and Ian Terry and Michael Lu and Dylan Taylor dropped a total of five games while sweeping the doubles for the Panthers.

Zoe Lor was a 7-6 (3), 7-5 winner at second singles for UD.

In the Del Val League: ACADEMY PARK 3, PENN WOOD 2 >> Wins by Kevin Tran, Phil Tang and Melvin Schoolfiel­d in the singles competitio­n lifted the Knights over the Patriots. All won in straight sets with Tran a 6-0, 6-0 winner at first singles.

Triston Bernard and John Kpanka, and Steven Siv and Joseph Tholley swept the doubles for Penn Wood.

Baseball

Strath Haven’s Andrew Robinson brought his ace stuff to the mound.

Robinson scattered three hits and struck out five in a complete-game performanc­e as the Panthers downed Harriton, 4-1, in Central League action.

Will Carey belted a tworun double and had a sacrifice fly for the Panthers. Luke Mutz was the table setter in the leadoff spot, contributi­ng two hits, including a double, and two runs scored. Anthony Viggiano added two singles, one RBI, a run scored and a stolen base. LOWER MERION 2, HAVERFORD 1 >> Haverford starter Corey Hunt gave up only four hits and struck out six over six innings, but the Aces broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth after a costly error by the Fords.

Luke Marmer finished with two hits and Drew Fowler doubled for the Fords.

In the Del Val League: ACADEMY PARK 13, CHESTER 7 >> Taylor Moors fanned eight and picked up the win for the Knights (1-1, 1-0). Chris Thomas had a triple and an RBI.

James Sperdurito was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for the Clippers (0-2, 0-2). CHICHESTER 19, GLEN MILLS 0 >> Hunter Killinen needed only 27 pitches to throw three shutout innings, and helped his cause with a double. INTERBORO 19, PENN WOOD 0 >> The Bucs rapped 15 hits and took advantage of eight Penn Wood errors.

Brian Parker and Deandre Depass each hit a single for the Patriots (0-1).

In the Bicentenni­al League: DELCO CHRISTIAN 10, CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 1 >> Prior to their season opener, the Knights hadn’t been on the baseball field for two weeks. No scrimmages, no outdoor practices.

DC was rusty, but showed.

Winning pitcher Cody Moorhatch reached base four times and scored twice out of the leadoff spot. Tyler Rossini, who was the Knights’ starter, also got on base four times and scored a pair of runs.

Rossi, Moorhatch and Penn Schmidt combined for 17 strikeouts.

In nonleague action: BONNER & PRENDERGAS­T 8, SOUTH HIGH (OHIO) 3 >> The Friars made the most of their trip to Orlando, Fla. Dom Dellabarba had a double and two ribbies, and Brian O’Neill, Alex Coll and Pat Lord scored two runs apiece. Joe Nestel tossed five innings with four Ks for the win. it hardly
