Irish-American veterans to be saluted on Sunday in Newtown

NEWTOWN >> Irish-American veterans will be honored on Sunday at the county veterans memorial on West Chester Pike.

The public is invited to attend the flying of seven Irish-American Veterans Casket Flags at 5 p.m. The ceremony will salute and honor Delaware County veterans’ country, family, culture, traditions and service to their country.

Veterans being honored are Joseph M. Kane, who served in the Army as a staff sergeant before being killed in action in Iraq; Charles F. McGrath, who served in the Marines as a lance corporal and was killed in action in Vietnam; John L. Dorsey, who served in the Navy as a first class seaman in World War I; Robert J. Buchanan, who served in the Army as a sergeant in the European Theatre in World War II; Thomas M. Sherlock, who served in Korea and stateside in the military police; James J. McLaughlin, who served as a captain in the Air Force during the Vietnam era; and Donald P. McCabe, a first lieutenant who served stateside in the Army.

The Irish-American Business Chamber Network, Ancient Order of Hibernians, and Monsignor Bonner-Archbishop Prendergas­t and Cardinal O’Hara high schools helped with the flags.
