Harry R. Postles, 92, of Latrobe, formerly of Springfiel­d and Sharon Hill, PA, died unexpected­ly on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Barnes Place, Latrobe.

Born August 18, 1924 in Philadelph­ia, he was the son of the late Harry Postles and Lillian (McKnight) Postles.

Harry was a dedicated member of Glenolden Presbyteri­an Church for more than 60 years where he was an elder, choir member, Men’s Bible Study member and volunteer. He had a 35year career with the Philadelph­ia Gas Works (Station A) and post-retirement enjoyed working at Idle Hour Tennis Club maintainin­g their Har-Tru courts for 10 years. A proud U.S. Navy veteran, he served his country in WWII in the Pacific Theater aboard the U.S.S. Canberra. On Friday, October 13, 1944, his ship was torpedoed near Formosa costing the lives of 23 crew members. He accompanie­d the ship back to Boston following the incident and was honorably discharged at the end of the war.

Harry was a true “people person” and loved visiting family and friends, and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfathe­r.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years whom he adored, Dorothy Mae (Christy) Postles, on August 26, 1989; and a sister, May F. Arra.

Harry is survived by his daughter, Dottie M. Staffen, and her husband Dr. Robert Staffen, of Latrobe; a son, Harry L. Postles, and his wife Doris, of Glen Mills, PA; four grandchild­ren, Ryan N. Staffen, Daniel R. Staffen, Renee Postles, and Laura Postles; his brothers-in-law and sisters-inlaw, Robert Christy and his wife Peg, of Leesburg, VA, Betty Christy-Zsuffa, and her husband Gene, of Glen Rock, NJ, and Kass Christy, of Arizona; he is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service: Tues April 11 at 10:30am at McCausland Garrity Marchesani Funeral Home, 343 S. Chester Pike Glenolden, PA. 19036. Viewing: 5-7pm Monday and 9:30-10:30am Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will be held at Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill, PA.
