Versatile Markowitz helps Raiders defeat Panthers

Colton Markowitz showed he is just as comfortabl­e playing doubles as he is playing singles.

Markowitz, who played at third singles in his last match for Radnor, teamed with George Hu for a key three-set victory at second doubles to pace the Raiders to a 5-2 Central League victory over Strath Haven.

Markowitz and Hu downed Harrison Hotham and Cole Wirth, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5. Chris Rinehart and Max Xie battled to a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 victory at third doubles to help Radnor sweep the pairs competitio­n.

Glay Galeski and Phinneas L’Armand won in straight sets at second and third singles, respective­ly, for Strath Haven.

Boys Lacrosse

Will Stenger, Adam Ritter and Fynn McNulty led Archbishop Carroll to a 10-9 nonleague triumph over Unionville.

Stenger was 8-for-13 on faceoffs and handed out three assists. Ritter paced the offense with three goals and two assists. McNulty also scored three times, while Connor O’Brien pitched in with two goals. Goalie Chris Stenger made 16 saves. INTERBORO 17, SUN VALLEY 9 >> Nate Murtha scored four times to pace the Bucs to a win over the Vanguards. Matt DiSands also had a big night with three goals and two assists. Josh Ciabatoni contribute­d three goals and one assist, while Michael Porreca finished with two goals and three assists.

Softball

It was just another day at the office for Penncrest, which rolled past Harriton, 10-0, and improved to 7-0 (5-0 Central League) on the season.

Olivia Rigby fueled the offense and Maya Hartman tossed her fourth shutout of the year with eight strikeouts.

Rigby went 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs scored. Julia Eackels went 2-for-2 with a pair of stolen bases, while Melody Gleason added two singles and scored twice. The speedy, slap-hitting lefty was 5-for-5 with four runs scored and two RBIs to pace the Vanguards (5-3) to a big Ches-Mont win.

Madison Gutowiecz, who pitched the victory, helped herself with three hits, including a pair of doubles, four RBIs and two runs scored.

Kylie Kane rapped two singles and scored twice Sun Valley, which outhit Rustin, 14-7. Alayna Lloyd made 1-for-1 at the plate look very good with a single, a sacrifice bunt, a sacrifice fly and three RBIs.
