Comcast Cares Day is bringing four community-service projects to the county this weekend.

The annual community-service initiative that incorporates volunteering employees of the nation’s largest cable provider with community members will initiate its sixteenth year on April 22, which happens to be Earth Day, in Chester, Lansdowne, Norwood and Yeadon.

Each event will need at least 100 volunteers to help and all projects will last from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Materials will be provided for each project. Appropriate attire is recommended. These are the details:

Chester: Volunteers will help landscape, paint and clean up the grounds at the STEM High School, located at 1100 W. 10th St. Volunteer capacity is 125. County resident Jim Samaha, who is the leader of Comcast’s Freedom Region, will be volunteering at this location.

Lansdowne: Celebrating their own “Keep Lansdowne Beautiful Day,” borough residents will help with landscaping, cleaning and painting. A special mural will be created as well with volunteers tasked to help paint it in throughout the day. This project has kid-friendly tasks. Approximately 150 volunteers are needed for this large-capacity project which will meet at the borough hall at 12 E. Baltimore Ave.

Norwood: Painting, cleaning and landscaping the Norwood Athletic Club, 415 N. Winona Ave., will be this borough’s service project. One hundred volunteers are being sought for this project.

Yeadon: A debris and foliage cleanup project will commence at St. Louis Roman Catholic Church, 821 W. Cobbs Creek Parkway. The targeted cleanup site is a wooded area by the church. Mayor Rohan Hepkins is expected to volunteer at this event. This project starts at 9 a.m.

Volunteers are encouraged to pre-register at www.comcastinthecommunity. com. Chester, Lansdowne and Norwood appear to be nearing volunteer capacity as of Wednesday morning, but Comcast does not look to “discourage anyone from pitching in,” said Public Relations Manager Alexandra Wachman, who added officals want to make sure everyone has a job to do.
