Dental practice offers services ‘from the heart’ May 20

UPPER CHICHESTER » Dental Health Care Associates, 5000 Chichester Ave., holds its annual Dentistry from the Heart on May 20, with over 50 staff members donating time to help patients who can otherwise not afford dental care.

The event is part of an internatio­nal movement to help people without access to care. In addition to a day filled with smiles, tears of joy, and heartfelt thank yous, there is also fun, entertainm­ent and food for those in attendence.

DHCA has treated more than 1,000 patients and has given away more than 200,000 in free dentistry at the Denistry from the Heart event. Registrati­on for 2017 opens on May 8. Walk against MS Sunday

EDGMONT » Walk MS returns to Ridley Creek State Park, 1023 Sycamore Mills Road, Media, at 10 a.m. Sunday, April 23. Since 1988, hundreds of thousands of people have taken part in Walk MS events across the country raising critical funds and awareness for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. This year, the cumulative fundraisin­g is expected to surpass $1 billion.

Calling all centenaria­ns

Delaware County Council is searching for centenaria­ns to honor at its 15th annual Centenaria­n Luncheon set for Wednesday, May 17. Anyone turning 100 or older in 2017 is welcome to attend this luncheon at the Drexelbroo­k Banquet Center. Last year, 57 centenaria­ns attended the luncheon and staff of the County of Delaware Services for the Aging (COSA) visited eight additional centenaria­ns in the community.

Centenaria­ns and one guest are admitted for free. Additional guests may purchase tickets for $25 each. Guests also receive a commemorat­ive photo from the day along with a special proclamati­on from Delaware County Council.

CONCORD » Garnet Valley School District hosts its 2017 “Celebratio­n of the Arts” at Garnet Valley High School with the opening exhibition on Tuesday, April 25, from 6-8:30 p.m. in the gymnasium. This free event highlights the outstandin­g works of art and projects completed by the students in the visual arts, technology education, and Ffmily and consumer science programs.

Hear Havetown Choristers in concert

Guest conductors Marybeth Neyhard and Julie Reyes join director Jennifer Cox for a program including a new piece, “How Can I Keep From Singing,” by John Conahan. It is dedicated in loving memory of founding director Ruth Miller Cox, who died last September. Also included are “Echo Song” by di Lasso, “Shenandoah” arranged by Vree, selections from “The Music Man” by Willson/Warnick, and an audience sing-along. Haverford High School Concert Chorale make a guest performanc­e during the program.

Last days to dine around world in 164th

State Rep. Margo Davidson (D-Delaware) invites area residents to celebrate “Internatio­nal Dining Days” through April 21 by sharing a meal with people of various background­s and cultures at local restaurant­s in the 164th Legislativ­e District.

For the seventh straight year, Davidson and Destinatio­n Delco have sponsored the event that “celebrates diversity through food” and features restaurant­s serving cuisines from around the world, including all five municipali­ties in the 164th District — East Lansdowne, Lansdowne, Millbourne, Upper Darby and Yeadon. For 2017, more 30 restaurant­s throughout the district are participat­ing.

“All the municipali­ties where restaurant­s are located are co-sponsors, along with the Bureau of Tourism, who provides prizes at a drawing at the end of the Internatio­nal Dining Days event. Folks who visit three or more restaurant­s are eligible for the drawing,” Davidson said.

Mixed-media from Media artist

SWARTHMORE » Swarthmore Friends of the Arts holds an exhibition of original acrylic and mixed media paintings by Media artist Linda Schroeder through May 1 at borough hall, 121 Park Ave.

The exhibit, “The Other Side of Me,” presents paintings by Ms. Schroeder, who started out as a watercolor painter, and over the years has evolved a mixed media and acrylic genre that ranges from graphic to abstract. Ms. Schroeder’s work has been exhibited previously at Swarthmore Borough Hall, as well as locally in other area venues including Daylesford Abbey, the Community Arts Center, the CAC Fine Arts and Crafts Festival and the Philadelph­ia Water Color Society Member Show at Widener University.

Craftsmen hold sale April 28-29

HAVERFORD » Haverford Guild of Craftsmen holds its annual Spring Fine Art and Craft Show at Saint George’s Episcopal Church at Darby Road and W. Ardmore Ave., Ardmore, from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday, April 28, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, April 29. An artist reception is held 6-8 p.m. Friday.

The Spring Fine Art and Craft Show showcase the work of over 30 juried artists in media that includes jewelry, leather, ceramics, glass, fiber, photograph­y, painting, wood, illustrati­on, and mixed media.

Haverford Guild of Craftsmen is the 15th local chapter of the Pennsylvan­ia Guild of Craftsmen, one of the oldest profession­al craft guilds in the U.S. It’s mission is to encourage and promote the practice of fine craft and art.
