Anabel (Ann) C. Sherwood
Anabel (Ann) C. Sherwood passed peacefully on Tuesday, April 18 at the Sterling Health Care & Rehabilitation Center, Media, PA.
Born on May 28, 1924 in Union City, PA, Ann was the daughter of William A. and Margaret M. Foster Gillett. Ann was married to Richard M. Sherwood who proceeded her in death in April 1980. Ann had three children: Andrew Sherwood living in Mount Joy, PA and David Sherwood and Martha Cimino who proceeded her in death. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and a sister, Maxine Markham from Ripley, NY.
Ann was currently a member of the Middletown Presbyterian Church where she participated in various choirs. In earlier years, she was a longtime member of the Ridley Park Presbyterian Church where she was an accomplished soprano in the choir, while her husband, Richard, was the organist for the church. She was a great enthusiast of the theater and participated in several local theatrical groups including Barnstormers in Ridley Park, PA. Ann was extremely proud of her family heritage and her membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).
Ann graduated from Union City High School and attended classes at Bucknell University where her husband, Richard, completed his undergraduate work. The family spent most of their lives in Prospect Park and Media. Ann retired as a Social Worker at Bryn Mawr Hospital where she was well respected by her colleagues.
Family was Ann’s primary focus throughout her life. After raising three children of her own, she took primary responsibility for raising two grandsons, Joseph and Robert Cimino, and continued to provide care for several great grandchildren during her later years.
A private service will be held Friday, April 28, for family members at the Edgewood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a monetary gift can be sent in her memory to the Middletown Presbyterian Church.
