MEDIA COURTHOUSE >> A 22-year-old Sharon Hill woman who initially told investigators another woman stabbed her boyfriend with a steak knife in December pleaded guilty Tuesday to misdemeanor charges of simple assault and possessing an instrument of crime.

Kydada Ames was sentenced to 23 months of intermediate punishment to begin with 10 consecutive weekends at the county prison in Concord and five months of electronic home monitoring.

She will also have two years of consecutive probation under the negotiated plea worked out by Assistant District Attorney Kimberly Riley and defense counsel Traci Burns.

Police were dispatched to the victim’s home on the 200 block of Bartlett Avenue shortly after 11 a.m. Dec. 5 for a report of a stabbing. Officers did not find anyone at the address, but did find a knife on the living room floor. A witness reported that the man living there left before the officers arrived and asked him to call 911 “because his girlfriend stabbed him in the chest,” according to an affidavit of probable cause.

The witness said the victim drove from the scene in the direction of Chester Pike accompanied by a woman in a black hijab. Police were soon informed that a man suffering from a stab wound to the chest and a black female in a black hijab were at the Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital emergency room.

The victim, who has children with Ames, allegedly told police that his ex-girlfriend came to his house to talk about their recent breakup and the two spoke on the front porch. The victim said the conversation became heated and the woman pulled out a steak knife, then stabbed him in the chest.

Ames identified herself to police as the victim’s wife, according to the affidavit. She told officers that the victim went onto the porch to talk to the other woman, but she soon heard him screaming for help.

Ames later confessed to stabbing the victim herself during an argument about their relationship that had begun the night before.

Ames was ordered not to have any “criminal contact” with the victim as part of her sentence. She will report to the prison May 5.
