5 people hit in drive-by shooting

CHESTER >> Five people were hit by gunfire in a drive-by shooting in the city Friday night, officials said.

The incident erupted just before 8 p.m. in the unit block East 21st Street. Police and emergency responders arrived at the scene and discovered five victims who had been shot.

Chester police said they responded to a call for shots fired in the area of E 21st & Edgmont Avenue for a reported shooting, with a possible victim shot in the facial area. Officers indicated that upon arrival police discovered five victims were reported to be injured, but no victims were struck in the face.

According to a statement released by police, an unknown type vehicle was traveling East on East 21st Street from Edgmont Avenue, and began shooting in the area of the unit block of East 21st Street. The vehicle continued to flee east on East 21st Street after the shooting.

All of the victims were rushed to CrozerChes­ter Medical Center.

One of the victims, identified as a 21-yearold black male, was struck four times, and is listed in stable condition. A 30-year-old black male was struck once in the leg. A 31-yearold black male was struck twice in the back. A 22-year-old black man was struck in the left leg. The last victim, a 44-year-old black female, was sitting in a vehicle at the time the shots were fired and received facial injuries from shattered glass fragments. All victims were treated for their injuries at Crozer Chester Medical Center.
