Bar holds free legal seminars
The Pro Bono Committee of the Delaware County Bar Association presents “Legal Issues Burdening Seniors Today” from 10-11:30 a.m. May 11 at the Chester Senior Center, 721 Hayes St. The free program deals with legal issues most burdening seniors today including: Real estate issues; avoiding tax sales; wills and estates; power of attorney; effective management of debt; and debts of spouses (living and deceased).
The seminar format includes presentations and an opportunity at the end for questions from the audience. The speakers are: Daniel A. DeLiberty, Esquire; Robert R. DeLong, Esquire; and Donald J. Weiss, Esq.
The Pro Bono Committee presents “General Information about all Aspects of Divorce” from 5:30-6:30 p.m. May 17 at the Delaware County Bar Association Auditorium, 335 W. Front St., Media. The free seminar deals with issues involved in a divorce case, including: Getting the divorce decree; alimony; child Support; child custody; and equitable distribution (dividing up the marital property).

Political forum comes to Folcroft

Weigh in on superintendent search
Chester Upland School District parents/community/stakeholders are invited to take part in a focus group (small discussion group) about the search for the new superintendent. The focus group sessions are held: Tuesday, May 2, at 6 p.m. at STEM Academy; and Thursday, May 4, at 6 p.m. at Toby Farms Intermediate School.
The focus group provides an opportunity to find out more about the search process and give input into key areas to assist in finding the ideal candidate for the next superintendent. The data collected during the focus groups will be used during the course of the interview process.
The focus group is led by administrators from the Delaware County Intermediate Unit (DCIU), who is conducting the search on the district’s behalf. They will ask a series of questions to gauge ideas, challenges and concerns about the district and its potential new Superintendent, while ensuring a frank and open discussion.

Prospect gardeners hold bake sale
PROSPECT PARK >> The Prospect Park Beautification Committee holds its annual Mother’s Day Cake and Confections Sale from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, May 13, at the borough hall, 720 Maryland Ave. The sale includes cakes, cookies, cookie baskets, candy and other treats that make great Mother’s Day gifts. Proceeds benefits the beautification committee’s community gardens, Curb Appeal Awards Program, Christmas tree lighting and Luminaries in the Park.

PHILADELPHIA >> State Rep. Joanna McClinton (D-191) hosts two free events in the Cobbs Creek community in May. A shredding event is held from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, May 6, at the Cobbs Creek Shopping Center, 5740 Baltimore Ave. Constituents are encouraged to bring unneeded paper items to be shredded for disposal, including old bills, health records and financial items, as well as any other paper items of a personal nature.
McClinton also inviting citizens to join her from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, May 20, for the 2017 Community Day at Add B. Anderson Elementary School, 1034 S. 60th St. The event features a parade for peace, free health screenings, health and wellness information, children’s activities and main stage entertainment.
McClinton and her staff also provide assistance for constituents applying for the Children’s Health Insurance Program, Medicaid and the Property Tax/ Rent Rebate Program during both events.
