Batten’s goal gives Academy Park a lift

Michaela Batten put home a pass from fellow senior Zyah Newsome 1:30 into the second overtime period to lift Academy Park to an 11-10 nonleague girls lacrosse victory over Oxford Monday.

Newsome and fellow senior Riley Street scored in the last two minutes to send the game into overtime. Street finished with five goals. Newsome and senior Angeliqua Ortiz finished with two goals and one assist apiece.

In other nonleague CHICHESTER 11, UPPER DARBY 7 >> Maura Murray tallied five times and Hayley Fritz found the back of the net four times to lead the Eagles.

Ali Cucinotta three times for Darby. NOTRE DAME 14, SHAWNEE (N.J.) 10 >> Mackenzie Irvine, Kelly Coyle, Hannah Gillespie and Claire Nappi compiled some impressive numbers for the Irish.

Irvin had three goals, two assists, three caused turnovers and one ground ball. Coyle also collected three goals and two assists action: scored Upper to go with three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Gillespie finished with three goals, one ground ball and one caused turnover, and Nappi added three goals one assist, three caused turnovers, two draw controls and one ground ball.

In the Catholic League: SACRED HEART 21, ST. BASIL 17 >> Danielle Santora poured in 11 goals and handed out two assists for the Lions. Hanna Seifried added five goals and three assists, while Maura Gibson chipped in with two goals.

Softball

Anna Torrens ripped a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning to power the Ridley to a 3-2 Central League softball triumph over Radnor.

The hit staked Ridley to a 3-0 lead and proved to be huge when Radnor put two runs on the board in the top of the seventh inning. Leighann Jenkins scattered three hits to get the win. Sarah Rosenblum ripped double for Radnor. Elsewhere in the Central a Academies League: STRATH HAVEN 8, LOWER MERION 0 >> Malia Calciano did it all for the Panthers. She hurled a 3-hit shutout and went 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs. MARPLE NEWTOWN 8, GARNET VALLEY 0 >> Grace Thom powered the offense with two hits and three RBIs. Magee Colsher and Jenna Cooper both went 2-for-4, while Allie Defruscio was 3-for-5. Pitcher Nicole Atkins fanned three in a complete-game effort. UPPER DARBY 12, SPRINGFIEL­D 9 >> Rebecca Sorrentino collected three hits and three RBIs, and Rylee Shanahan added two RBIs for the Royals, who scored three times in the sixth inning to break a 9-all tie.

Ashley Scarpato drove in three runs for the Cougars. HAVERFORD 2, PENNCREST 1>> Heather Lazor singled home the go-ahead run in the bottom of the third inning and pitcher Gabirelle Gentile took care of the rest for the Fords (11-2, 11-1 Central League). Gentile allowed six hits and fanned two. Amira Gallagher scored Haverford’s first run on a fielder’s choice.

In the Catholic League: ARCHBISHOP CARROLL 10, LANSDALE CATHOLIC 2 >> The Patriots batted .500 for the game and received an outstandin­g pitching performanc­e from Mary Clare Boyle.

Erin Gibbson blasted a bases-loaded triple while going 3-for-4. Casey Malone ripped a three-run double while going 3-for-4. BONNER & PRENDERGAS­T 8, LITTLE FLOWER 1 >> Meghan Sullivan went the distance, fanned six and allowed five hits for the Pandas (10-3, 6-2 Catholic League).

Kelsey Czibik (two-run single), Molly McNulty (two hits, two RBIs) and Kerri Quinn (two hits) showed the way on offense.

In nonleague action: SUN VALLEY 8, CHICHESTER 0 >> Mackenzie Lewis ripped a two-run double and Alayna Lloyd laced a two-run double to highlight a six-run uprisings by the Vanguards in the third inning. That was more than enough support for winning pitcher Madison Gutowiecz, who scattered five hits and went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI to pace the Vanguards to straight win. MERION MERCY 12, ACADEMY PARK 0 >> Kristen Krouse tossed a complete-game, three-hitter with six strikeouts, and Brooke Loonstyn and Leah McCray drove in four runs each for the Golden Bears. their

Boys Lacrosse

Interboro needed every one of the 17 points Nate Murtha and Mike Porreca combined for to outlast Kennett, 16-15.

Murtha had a monster game with seven goals and three assists. Porreca added four goals, including the winner, and three assists. Brett McLaughlin chipped in with one goal, three assists and eight ground balls.

Christophe­r Jones and the doubles teams of Daniel Dumas and John Fayiah and Joseph Tholley and Steven Siv bounced back from first-set losses to lift Penn Wood to a 5-0 Del Val League victory over Glen Mills.

John Kpankpa (second singles) was the only Penn Wood player to win in straight sets. Victor Alao (first singles), Jones and the two doubles teams all needed three sets to claim victory. UPPER DARBY 6, ROMAN CATHOLIC 0 >> Ani Tupia needed a tiebreaker to win his second set at third singles and give the Royals a straight sets sweep of the singles. William Lu and Hama Azam did not drop a game at third doubles. RADNOR 7, HENDRSON 0 >> Max Safanov did not lose a game at first singles and Chris Rinehart and Luigi Giacomucci did the same at third doubles to lead the Raiders.

In the Central League LOWER MERION 7, RIDLEY 0 >> The Aces won five of the seven matches, including all four in doubles, without dropping a game.

Girls Golf

Junior Olivia Traynor fired a five-over par 41 to help Notre Dame stay undefeated with a 172-176 nonleague victory over Hill School at Brookside Country Club. Senior captain had the next low score for the Irish (6-0) with a 42.
