Kent’s sweep highlights Haven’s 75th straight league win

Seventy-five wins down, and an eye on a seventh straight Central League girls track and field title.

Rachel Kent was unbeatable in the discus, javelin and 100 hurdles as Strath Haven trounced Penncrest and Conestoga by matching 110-40 scores Tuesday to secure its 75th consecutiv­e league win. The Lions handled the Pioneers, 77-64. The Panthers will try to make it a seven-peat on May 8 when they take on Ridley and Upper Darby for the title.

Kent ran the hurdles in 15.4 while also tossing the discus 98 feet, nine inches, and the shot put 32 feet, eight inches. Maddie Nowoswiat won the long jump (15-9) and high jump (4-10) for the Lions.

In other Central League action: UPPER DARBY WALTZES PAST RADNOR, HARRITON >> Michelle Brown-Jones was a triple-winner for the Royals, topping the field in the 100, 200 and long jump as Upper Darby beat Radnor (108-40) and Harriton (121-27), while Radnor trounced Harriton, 113-24.

Brown-Jones ran the 100 in 12.59 and the 200 in 27.02 before long jumping 17 feet, eight inches. Keara Seasholtz won the 400 for Radnor. RIDLEY SWEEPS GARNET VALLEY, HAVERFORD >> Meghan Lynch’s wins in the triple jump (36-11) and long jump (17-6) highlighte­d the Green Raiders’ 81-69 and 85-61 triumphs over Garnet Valley and Haverford, respective­ly. The Jaguars downed the Fords, 80-69.

Autumn Francis paced the Fords with wins in the 300 hurdles and discus, while Garnet Valley’s Julia Hellman won in the 1,600 and 3,200. MARPLE NEWTOWN HANDLES SPRINGFIEL­D >> Danielle Peyton claimed the long jump and triple jump for Springfiel­d, and Symphonie Blalock was tops in the shot put and discus for the Cougars. Lower Merion beat Springfiel­d (109-36) and Marple Newtown (111.5-33.5), while the Tigers downed the Cougars 73-67.

Boys Track

Xavier Norman was the cream of the field crop thanks to a pair of wins in the shot put and discus that helped Ridley down Haverford, 80-70, and Garnet Valley, 116-34 in the Central League. The Fords downed the Jaguars, 103-45.

Norman tossed the shot 36 feet, 10 ¼ inches, while also adding a 111-foot, 11-inch launch of the discus for Ridley. The Green Raiders’ Zack Forney was the class of the 1,600 (4:33.6) and 3,200 (10:18.8).

Anthony Cornish won the 100 (11.2) and 200 for the Fords. RADNOR HITS THE CENTURY MARK TWICE IN SWEEP >> Aiden Bermudez highlighte­d a pair of Radnor blowout wins with victories in the discus and shot put as the Raiders powered past Upper Darby (115-35) and Harriton (135-12).

Bermudez launched the shot 48 feet, seven inches, to go along with a discus hurl of 132 feet, eight inches.

Fahad Manzoor also had a day to (22.9) remember, winning the 300 hurdles (45.7), tying for the high jump (5-4) Eli Brown.

Girls Lacrosse

Springfiel­d didn’t waste any defensive clamps on Haverford.

The Cougars yielded only one goal in both halves, thanks to 13 saves from Julianne Clemens, and Bridget Whitaker scored three times and set up another as Springfiel­d raced to a 10-2 win over the Fords in a Central League battle.

Belle Mastropiet­ro shined at midfield while replacing an injured starter, leading the Cougars (121, 8-1 Central League) in draw controls and contested ground balls while also supplying an assist. Erika Biehl played a huge role in limiting Haverford’s offense.

Freshman Lauren Johns was strong in goal Fords (6-7, 3-6), tossing aside a dozen shots. RIDLEY 14, LOWER MERION 4 >> Emily Johnston went off for the Green Raiders, scoring six times and setting up three more, and Hanna Crowley added four goals and two assists in Ridley’s rout.

Corinne Stratton added two goals for Ridley. GARNET VALLEY 19, UPPER DARBY 3 >> Madi McKee owned the draw circle, scooping up seven draws to go with two goals and an assist, and Kamryn McNeal sniped a pair of goals and set up two others, as the Jaguars rolled.

Gabby Liberio supplied goals. RADNOR 18, MARPLE NEWTOWN 4 >> Julianne Puckette was unstoppabl­e for the Raiders as she snagged seven draw controls, scooped up four ground balls, scored four times and added an assist as Radnor jumped out to a 10-0 halftime lead and never looked back.

Cate Cox handed out three of goals, while Hope Smith each added two goals. CONESTOGA 16, PENNCREST 2 >> Scottie Growney scored four times and dished out two assists and Liz Scott paired five points with five draw controls as the defending state champs handled the Lions, despite two goals from Grace Harding.

The Christian Academy broke out early and often against Morrisvill­e.

Lindsay Haseltine cracked a double and bashed a home run for 3 RBIs, and Grace Heron tripled and drove in three as the Crusaders cruised, 11-1, in a Bicentenni­al League game.

Emma Mansfield provided base. BRISTOL 12-17, DELCO CHRISTIAN 2-1 supplied all three of DC’s runs in via a pair of home runs.

In the Catholic League: ARCHBISHOP RYAN 5, BONNER & PRENDERGAS­T 2 >> Meghan Sullivan blasted a two-run triple in the seventh inning, but the Pandas struggled to convert during the rest of the night and left 11 runners on base.

In the Del Val League: CHICHESTER 18, ACADEMY PARK 2 >> Hayley Coale slugged a pair of home runs and drove in six, while Nicolle O’Donnell crushed a home run, doubled and brought in four as the Eagles (4-7) dominated. Makayla Donovan and Samantha Falcone also doubled for Chi. INTERBORO 11, PENN WOOD 0 >> Khaliah Gordon and Ameenah Ballenger each had a hit for the Patriots.

Boys Tennis

Things didn’t look good for Sun Valley heading into doubles play against Academy Park, but the Vanguards had other ideas.

Evan Roland and Shawn Burton teamed up for a win at No. 1, followed by another win from Hunter Hoffman and Ryan Costigan as Sun Valley edged AP, 3-2, in a nonleague match.

Kevin Tran and Abdulai Gassama triumphed their singles matches for the Knights.

In the Central League: RADNOR 6, GARNET VALLEY 1 >> Max Safanov, Alex Weiss and Jonathan Davis won in straight sets at singles to guide the Raiders (13-3). UPPER DARBY 7, RIDLEY 0 >> Brandon Caban, Zoe Lor and Ani Tupia handled their singles matchups with ease by posting identical 6-0, 6-1 wins to pace the Royals.

In the Inter-Ac: HAVERFORD SCHOOL 7, SPRINGSIDE CHESTNUT HILL 0 >> Connor Lees, Julius Golz and Emilio Fink grabbed singles wins for the Fords.

In the Del Val: CHICHESTER 4, PENN WOOD 1 >> Joe Hagel won at No. 1 singles and the tandem of Tom Baney and Ricky Van Newkirk put together an impressive win at No. 1 doubles as the Eagles soared. John Kpankpa claimed the Patriots’ lone victory. in
