Fritz’s five-goal game puts Chichester on brink of title

With 10 goals in each half, Chichester upended Interboro 20-12 in Del Val League girls lacrosse action Thursday. The victory puts the Eagles on the brink of a milestone. A win in its final league game against Academy Park next week would give Chichester (8-3, 7-1) its first league title since 1999.

Hayley Fritz fronted the offensive outburst with five goals. She was supported by Cameron Toper, who scored four times, and Maura Murray and Adriana Willaghby, who buried three shots each. That balanced attack proved too tough for the Bucs to handle. Morgan Reed had five goals and two assists in the loss.

In the Central League: SPRINGFIEL­D 11, HARRITON 3 >> A slow start nearly jeopardize­d the Cougars’ place atop the Central League standings. At half, the Rams led 3-1, a strong effort from one of the pack members chasing Springfiel­d. But the Cougars (131, 9-1) rallied for 10 goals after the break and shut down Harriton (115, 8-2) on the defensive side. Bailey O’Brien led the charge with six goals, while Maggie O’Connell returned from injury to net two. GARNET VALLEY 11, STRATH HAVEN 10>> The Jaguars left it late against their Central rivals. Kamryn McNeal broke the deadlock with 5.7 seconds left in the game, her fourth goal of the evening, to help Garnet Valley escape. While McNeal was potting goals, Regan Nealon was setting them up. She finished with three assists and found the back of the net herself. HAVERFORD 12, RIDLEY 11 >> Reilly Morgan was the Fords’ hero Thursday night. She scored the gamewinnin­g goal in overtime to spot Haverford a dramatic league win. Nora Janzer’s draw control, one of two on the night for her, proved crucial as the Fords found the suddendeat­h marker. Janzer also had two goals. Hanna Gamby had a teambest three goals for the Raiders, who also got multiple goals from Emily Johnston and Haley Adam. CONESTOGA 18, UPPER DARBY 1 >> Ali Cucinotta assisted on Violet Lange’s first-half goal and Mallory Perry made 10 saves for the Royals but most of the accolades went to the Pioneers. Amelia Kienzle led a balanced Conestoga attack with three goals and two assists. RADNOR 19, LOWER MERION 5 >> Cate Cox torched the Aces to the tune of four goals and seven assists, She was one-upped in the goal department, however, by teammate Julianne Puckette. She added nine draw controls for good measure as Radnor ran away with the game. PENNCREST1­1,MARPLENEWT­OWN5 >> The Tigers gave the Lions all they could handle, scoring fives goals in a first half that ranks among the team’s best all seasons. Penncrest held a 6-5 advantage at the break, though, and restored order in the second half. Grace Harding led the way with five goals. On the other side, Kaely Cristello paced Marple with three goals and an assist. Christina O’Rangers stopped 19 Penncrest shots as well.

In the Inter-Ac League: AGNES IRWIN 16, SPRINGSIDE­CHESTNUT HILL ACADEMY 3 >> A 14-1 cushion at the break was enough to make the Owls put things in cruise control. Sydney Wolfington’s fivegoal, three-assist output was tops among the scorers, while Alex Hark controlled a team-best five draws.

In the Ches-Mont League: W.C. RUSTIN 19, SUN VALLEY 3 >> The Vanguards didn’t muster much offense but they did spread it around. Three different players found the back of the net, in Abby Seasock, Liz Johnson and Hannah Maggio. Kellianne Culloty picked up an assist. Alexis Colasanted was also strong in goal with 12 saves.

In nonleague action: SACRED HEART 15, ACADEMY PARK 6 >> The Knights outscored the Lions, 3-2 in the second half to take some consolatio­n from the defeat. Zyah Newsome and Riley Street each had two goals for Academy Park. Terae Mason backstoppe­d the Knights with 12 saves. DELCO CHRISTIAN 10, PENN WOOD 1 >> Eight players accounted for Delco Christian’s 10 goals in the blowout. Maggie Tyson was the lone Knight with multiple markers. Alison Levis and Taylor Mingle each contribute­d a goal and two assists.

Golf

Agnes Irwin junior Kaitlyn Lees has been playing varsity golf at a high level since seventh grade, but never had she defeated anyone from Notre Dame prior to Thursday night’s Inter-Ac match.

Lees fired a three-under 34 at Merion West to help the Owls sneak past the Irish, 229-231.

Lees was one of four Agnes Irwin golfers to break 50 along with Anne Curran (45), Jordyn Hurly (48) and Maura Boyle (48). Olivia Traynor shot 41 to lead Notre Dame, while Bridget Pyott and Brianna Marmorstei­n each carded 44s.

Tennis

Radnor triumphed in second doubles, but it was too little, too late as the Raiders were ousted by Downingtow­n East, 4-1, in the District 1 Class 3A boys team tennis championsh­ips Thursday. Luigi Giacomucci and Ethan Lee defeated Kevin Ly and Justin Song, 6-3, 6-1 for the Raiders.

In Inter-Ac action: HAVERFORD SCHOOL 4, EPISCOPAL ACADEMY 3 >> John Walsh, Will McDevitt and Connor Lees won in straight sets in singles, and Cole Wolf and Sunny Yu prevailed in three sets to lead the Fords to victory.

In nonleague action: RIDLEY 4, ACADEMY PARK 1 >> Steve Scheizly and Alex Joyce won in singles to lead the Green Raiders. Also prevailing for Ridley were the doubles teams of Dom Heideman and Mo Soliman, and Dave Hill and Amin Belgaiz. Abdulai Gassama triumphed at third singles for Academy Park (7-9). HAVERFORD 7, ROMAN CATHOLIC 0 >> The Fords rolled to complete the season with a 7-9 mark, Seniors Jack McGovern, Andrew Field and Jack Simpson all triumphed to go out on a high note. Third doubles Sammy Ortiz and Scott Kaplan won six straight matches to close the season.
