Castro’s aging like a fine cigar

Jose Castro isn’t in triple digits yet, but he’s no kid, either ... except on the softball field.

Delaware County’s eternal boy of summer ripped five hits, helping to lead Goshen Beverage to an 8-7 and 13-12 sweep of United Sports in a Brandywine Valley Senior Softball League doublehead­er Thursday.

Also getting five hits in the DH for the Beverage guys was Bob Shemonsky, while John Farley, Randy Pritzger, Ed Turner and Mike Szerba had four hits each.

Oh, and of course ... Jose wasn’t done (see below). BOSS AUTOMOTIVE 16-4, LIFESMOKEV­APOR.COM 12-13 >> Jack Williams was the man on the mound who slipped out of an extra-inning jam and helped Boss hold on to gain a split of the doublehead­er. Ralph Camardelli had six hits in the doublehead­er for the Boss men, including a home run. Doug Janssen also homered.

Mark Johnson led LifeSmoke with four hits, including a smoked dinger. Jack Freehoff and Ken Ross joined the homer parade.

Ches-Del Seniors

Jim Singel and Joe Bouton had four hits each as Optimum Physical Therapy Legends defeated Sloane Toyota, 14-6. John Spangler had three hits for the PTers, while Frank Edwards cranked four hits for Sloane. PATRIOTS 14, PRIDE ’N’ JOY 6 >> Someone named Jose Castro, Rob Wolf, Ed Turner and Lou Vilotti all had three hits. John Gallen pitched in with defensive help by Larry Trout and Ron Kummerer.

Suburban Women’s Slow

Kimmy Mander (five RBIs) and Jane Stein (3 RBIs) had three hits each to lead Dolan’s past Coaches Bar 17-2. Rachel Lubberman had two hits and a pair of rib-eyes to help her pitching cause. CHRISTOPHE­R’S FOOTPRINTS 24, KERRY’S CONCRETE 9 >> Patti Pasquarell­o had three hits and three RBIs to help Chris’ break the Concrete. Lexi Law went her one better, with four hits, including three doubles and three RBIs. Briana Thompson added three hits and pitcher Heather Sullivan took it easy.

Community Church

Joey Lincke’s hit scored Tom Forbes with the winning run as DVR-UTC enjoyed a 23-22 walkoff win. Philip England hit for the cycle for DVR-UTC and Jimmy Chitwood reportedly had a sac fly, walk and game-winning threepoint­er.

Hook/Furey

Kevin Kelly had four hits and three RBIs and Marshall Digrazio had four hits and four ribbies as MRC beat PT Tub Repair 16-12. Norm Donkin, Dan Collins and Rob Sladek added three hits. That done, MRC then finished up with a 21-1 blowout win.

Donkin, Kelly, Collins, Demetrius Morris and Mike Morrissey all had three hits. CLARK CAPITAL 21-18, PERSONAL HEALTH 9-4 >> Steve Michaels, Chuck Stewart and Frankie Smith all had three hits in the opener; Andy Ruhf, Paul Akley, Jimmy Jenkins and Tim Trout had three hits in the closer.

Marcus Hook

Joe Kelly, Brian Leon, Chris Kerstetter and Dan Lucas “all had a handful of hits” as Old State Tavern swept Bats Plus 25-7 and 8-7.

Baseball

Larry Greenwich Sr. had two hits and two RBIs and so did Carlos Law as Top Lumber Expos beat the Glen Mills Rays, 10-4, in Men’s Senior Baseball League play. Ed Bahamonde cleared the full bases with a double, and Champ Sanchez added a run-scoring triple.

Matt Papa and Matt Wilcox pitched well.
