Margaret C. Corbett
Margaret “Peg” C. (Connor) Corbett, 93, of Norwood, PA, entered into eternal life on May 1, 2017. Peg was born in Philadelphia on March 19, 1924 to Joseph P. and Anna (Seedorf) Connor. The young family moved to Delaware County in 1930. Peg attended St. Gabriel School and graduated from Glen-Nor High School in 1942. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Phillip J. Corbett; her parents; her sisters, Dorothy (Connor) Burn and Joan Connor; and her brother, Joseph P. Connor, Jr.
She was the loving mother of Christine (Richard) Butler of Estero, FL; Adele (S. Michael) Willenbecher of Ambler, PA; Mary Ann Corbett of Norwood, PA and Lindley, NY; James J. Corbett of San Diego, CA; and Phyllis (Robert) Schultz of Middletown, DE. She will be missed by her grandchildren who brought her much joy, her many greatgrandchildren who blessed her life and her treasured great-great-grandchildren. She also held a special place in her heart for her cousins in Germany and many nieces and nephews and their children, especially Thomas Carney and Margaret Martel.
When she met a young sailor after a USO dance and agreed to see him again, a love story began that lasted beyond the death of her husband, Phil. During their years together they brought up their family near several Naval bases along the west coast and finally in New London, CT. In 1963, Peg and Phil returned to Delaware County living in Prospect Park, Springfield and Norwood, PA.
While raising her children, she started a new career in 1969 when she began working for the U.S. Postal Service rising to the position of Supervisor, retiring in 1989. She enjoyed international travel, bingo, casinos, bowling and socializing with her many friends.
Peg was active in several organizations and many committees in New London and Norwood. She was a Girl Scout Leader in both towns. Peg was a member of the Senior Social Club of Norwood, the Ladies Auxiliary Fleet Reserve, and the USS Coral Sea Association. She was a communicant of St. Gabriel Parish and also served on many church committees over the years. Margaret Connor Corbett lived a full, rich and long life! In her honor, please be kind to one another.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Sunday from 6-8 PM at Cavanagh Family Funeral Home, 301 Chester Pike, Norwood and Monday from 9:45 AM until the start of her Funeral Mass at 11 AM at St. Gabriel Church, 233 Mohawk Ave., Norwood. Interment will follow at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield.
