LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
To the Times: In 1787 the drafting and ratification of the United States Constitution began. This was the beginning and development of the greatest country in the world, the United States of America.
On Thursday, May 4, 2017, the dismantling of the Affordable Care Act took place in our nation’s capital, Washington, D.C.!
Four of our suburban counties are represented by Congressmen Patrick Meehan, Ryan Costello, and Brian Fitzpatrick. In watching the vote today where all three of these representatives cast votes against the bill offered by fellow Republicans, came as a surprise! All three of these men are what I would call moderates!
The pressures from the leadership in the House and from the White House, including the president, was tremendous. These men voted their constituency, as they should! They stood very tall and did the right thing by voting “No” on the bill. They answered the call of their constituency, they let it be known that they heard the voices of constituents in southeastern Pennsylvania loud and clear. This vote also sent a message to Washington that no one but the people of southeastern Pennsylvania will dictate to them!
Congressman are representatives of a district in their state. There function is to represent the people of that area. They are supposed to be their voice in Washington. More times than I care to remember our elected officials forget what their job is, being your voice, my voice in Washington.
In conclusion, I want to thank these three Profiles in Courage for standing tall in the wake of pressures from special interests, House leadership, the president, the extremists from the left and the right! The voters will always support those that support them!
