Anyone who was at the Philadelphia Union Game on May 17 knows that Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Timothy Greene was honored as the “Hometown Hero” for his work with the Troop K Cadet program and his community outreach efforts.

Greene is the community services officers for Troop K Media station in Middletown and by all accounts, the epitome of the title “officer and a gentleman.”

Greene, who was joined at Talen Energy Stadium in Chester by members of Troop K, said he was honored by the recognition.

Congratulations to Folcroft police officers Christopher Dorman and David DePietro, who received the 2017 “Valor Award,” and Sgt. William Bair, who received the 2017 “Heroism Award,” for their actions last June when Dorman was shot seven times.

The awards were presented Tuesday at the Citizen Crime Commission’s 36th annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Ceremony.

Also, members of the Yeadon Police Department, the Delaware County Criminal Investigation Division and the Special Victims Unit of the Philadelphia Police Department were awarded the “Multi-Unit” citation for their combined efforts that resulted in the arrest of Byron Allen in the stabbing death of 32-yearold Natasha Gibson in the early hours of Sept. 22, 2016, in Yeadon.

In Ridley Township Wednesday night, the police department welcomed K9 Hannes and K9 Zork to the force. Their arrival marks the return of K9 units to the township after a more than 10-year absence.

Both dogs have received patrol and narcotics training.

Hannes will join Officer Matt Rowan and Zork will join Officer Brian Judge.

Funding for the dogs was provided through Delaware County Council and Delaware County District Attorney Jack Whelan’s office. Both Whelan and Delaware County Councilman Dave White were on hand for the swearing-in ceremony.

Marple residents are invited to the dedication of the new police station, to be held 7 p.m., June 6. The headquarters, 1001 Sussex Blvd. in the Lawrence Park Industrial Center, is the site of the former Hi-Fi House. The station will be open for tours after the ceremony and the commissioners invite residents to see the facility designed to serve the community for the next 50 years.

A week from today, the 41st annual Delaware County Hero Bowl will take place at Cardinal O’Hara High School. Teams represent more than 90 All-Star football players selected by the Delaware County Football Coaches Association.
