Charles J. “Chuck” Smith, Sr.
Charles J. “Chuck” Smith, Sr., 67, of Folcroft, PA, died Monday May 22, 2017 in his home.
Born in Upper Darby, PA, he was the son of the late Clarence and the late Claire (Kelly) Smith. Chuck, also known as Smitty, grew up in Collingdale, was a 1968 graduate of Collingdale High School and has lived in Folcroft for the past 21 years. A US Army Ranger and Purple Heart recipient, he saw active duty during the Vietnam War.
He was a member of the Norwood VFW, Vietnam Veterans of America and the Disabled American Veterans Delco Chapter 113. Chuck enjoyed time with his grandchildren, music, singing and reading.
Smitty retired from Penn Jersey Paper Co. and was a member of Teamsters Union Local 107. After retirement, he spent countless hours at the Philadelphia Veterans Community Living Center, where he enjoyed singing a cappella with the many friends he met during his stays.
Survived by: wife Nancy (Maphis) Smith, children Charles J. (Danielle) Smith, Jr., Kimberly (Alfred) Spina and Melissa Smith, and his five treasured granddaughters: Jordan, Julia, Jessica, Lindsay and Miranda. He is also survived by his brother Robert Smith and several loved nieces and nephews.
Services and burial will be private.
