Jay Wright and his coaching staff at Villanova have had quite a bit of success in recruiting what locals in the Washington metropolitan area like to call the “DMV.”

Josh Hart came out of that area and so did Kris Jenkins and Scottie Reynolds, just to name a few.

Well, you can add the name of Brandon Slater to that list of players from the DMV who have made Villanova their college choice.

Slater, a 6-6, 180-pound guard from Paul VI High School in Fairfax, Va. announced his decision via Twitter.

“I’m a tweeted.

Slater also added a happy face emogi, two exclamation marks and Wright’s Twitter handle. Slater, who could not be reached for comment, chose the Wildcats over Maryland, South Carolina and Miami, according to the Washington Post.

“It felt like the right school,” Slater told the Post. Wildcat,” Slater “Villanova felt like the college version of my high school, Paul VI. I’m a family guy and a relationship guy and that’s what it came down to.”

Slater is the first commitment from the Class of 2018 for the Wildcats. As a junior, Slater averaged 15.6 points for a team that went 24-4, won the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) and was second in the conference tournament to area power Gonzaga.

Slater is ranked in the top 50 in all the major recruiting services. He is No. 30 by Scout.com, No. 35 by 247sports.com and No. 42 by both ESPN.com and Rivals.com.

His stock rose following a 34-point, 10-rebound effort in an 83-73 loss to Gonzaga in January, his coach, Glenn Farello, told the Post. Slater began to receive interest from the likes of Kentucky and Kansas, Farello said.

“That gave him the confidence to continue to play at that level,” Farello said. “It didn’t surprise me. It didn’t surprise his teammates, but I think he surprised himself.”
