Ida (Schaffer) Hartzell

-

Ida (Schaffer) Hartzell Our beloved Ida, Mom, and Grammy peacefully entered into the presence of her precious Lord and Savior on May 28, 2017, after a long battle with leukemia.

Ida Hartzell was born October 15, 1928 in Philadelphia and was raised with six older siblings by her father, grandmother, and aunt. She graduated from John Bartram H.S. and attended Philadelphia College of the Bible. From her earliest days Ida loved to sing. At 13, while singing in a women’s trio, Ida drew the attention of Dick Hartzell who would 6 years later become her dear husband. Together they raised a daughter and two sons. Ida was generous and loved to serve others - especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and her church as Sunday School teacher, choir director, and Young at Heart leader. Ida loved to read and to study her Bible. She was famous for her applesauce, apple pies, and tea parties. She thrived on adventure especially hiking and camping, and always had a needlepoint project in her hand when sitting down. Ida’s family is very grateful for the tender care Ida received from her doctors, hospice team, and oncology care team.

Ida is predeceased by brothers (Bernard, Edgar, Lee), sisters (Esther, June), and dear grandson Keagan Hartzell. Survivors: Devoted Husband: G. Richard Hartzell. Daughter: Nancy H. (Richard) McIntyre. Sons: Richard M. (Priscilla) Hartzell and Neil L. (Terri) Hartzell. Sister: Marian Quinn. 8 Grandchildren, 8 Great-Grandchildren and 2 on the way.
