Janet Hallett Flinn, 88, of Rapid City, South Dakota, died Friday, May 26, at West Hills Village. She died peacefully, surrounded by her children.

She was born to Paul and Dorothea Crosby on March 22, 1929, in Ridley Park, Pennsylvan­ia. She graduated from Ridley Park High School in 1947 and The College of Wooster in 1951.

Janet worked for the Central Intelligen­ce Agency in Washington, DC and in Frankfurt, Germany, between 1951 and 1955. From 1976 to 1986, she worked at Tri-Ad Advertisin­g in Rapid City.

She married the Reverend Paul L. C. Hallett, an Episcopal priest, in 1956. They lived in Edina, Minnesota and Rapid City, South Dakota. Reverend Hallett died in 1981. She married the Reverend J. Seymour Flinn, an Episcopal Priest, in 1986. They lived in New York City, retired to Wilmington Delaware in 1994 and moved to Rapid City in May of 2004. Reverend Flinn died in 2014.

Janet was active in the Episcopal Church and in community service. In Rapid City, she was one of the founders of Working Against Violence. In Wilmington, she was a mentor in a public school. In New York, she ministered to persons living with AIDS.

She is survived by: her children, Dave (Judy) Hallett, Liddy (Brad) Rohrbach, Dr. Sarah Hallett, David Flinn, Melissa Spurr, and Andrew Flinn; her grandchild­ren, Paul Hallett, Charlie Hallett, Kate Hallett, Crystal Rohrbach, Amy Rohrbach, Eli Flinn, Rosalie Flinn, Liam Spurr, Thomas Spurr, Wyatt Flinn, Joshua Flinn, Nikki Flinn, Jessica Flinn and Emily Flinn; her great grandchild­ren, Jacob Pietz, Ethan Evans and McKensie Flinn; her sister-in-law, Maria Samoury; and her nieces, Georgianna Crosby and Christine Crosby.

She also was preceded in death by her brothers, David Crosby and Robert Crosby.

Memorials may be given to the Paul Hallett Memorial Dialysis Fund at Rapid City Regional Hospital or Working Against Violence.

A Celebratio­n of Life will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church.
