Springfiel­d pitchers handcuff Highland Park in 2-game sweep

Springfiel­d pitchers Luke Sprague and Ed Ronayne made life tough for Highland Park hitters in Intermedia­te EDCO League action Friday and Saturday.

Sprague tossed a no-hitter Friday night as Springfiel­d won, 6-1. Ronayne allowed just one hit in a 10-0 triumph Saturday.

Sprague struck out 14 in a completega­me effort, while Ronayne fanned six in four innings. Cam Thorpe came through at the plate in both games. He had two hits Friday night and was 4-for-4 Saturday with two doubles, four RBIs and three runs scored.

Nick Sharer lofted two sacrifice flies in the Friday win, while Ryan Hobbs collected two hits and two RBIs Saturday.

Delco League

Joe Samohod came through with a solid effort on the mound and Eric Bergman delivered the big hit to help Springfiel­d snap a three-game losing streak in the Delco League with a 5-2 victory over Concord.

Samohod allowed four hits and struck out one in five innings to get the win. Bergman put the Colonials ahead to stay with an RBI single in the fourth inning. Spencer Sohmer added one hit, one RBI and two runs scored.

Spencer Stokes and Ryan Tecco drilled two-run doubles to pace the defending champions to their second win in as many days. Rich Tecco added three hits, two runs scored and one RBI. Nick Bralczyk allowed one earned run, three hits, fanned six and walked five in six innings to get the win.

Matt Eiel lost his no-hit bid on a bunt single with one out in the sixth inning. He allowed one unearned run, fanned seven and retired the Lions in order from the second through the fifth innings. Jimmer Kennedy struck out the side in the seventh inning to close it out.

James Kantner slugged a two-run homer while going 2-for-3, Bryan Rubin and Chris Iazzetti also went 2-for-3.

Tom Carey slugged a two-run homer and a two-run triple to stake pitcher Alex Cohen to victory in his Delco League debut. Liam Bendo and Seth Bower chipped in with two hits each. In action from Friday night:

Chip Sherer collected three hits and three RBIs as Chester ended a four-game losing streak. Ray Gambone picked up the win.

Toby MacCart surrendere­d one hit and one earned run in five innings to get the win. Steve Furman went 3-for3 with two runs scored, while Mike White and Joe Lake each had a tworun hit.

Tom Kerry clubbed two doubles and knocked in four runs for the Black Sox. Sam Freedman had a two-run double among his two hits.

The Concord Canes will hold their annual Military Appreciati­on Day when they host Narberth at 2 o’clock Sunday Valley High School.

The team will also honor player/coach, and U.S. Navy veteran, Frank Saviski Sr., who passed away earlier this year. A barbecue will be held during and after the game.

Senior EDCO

Shane Van Horn was dominant on the mound and at the plate as Garnet Valley rolled over Ridley, 11-0.

Van Horn scattered four hits in six innings and had two hits including a triple and two RBIs. Liam Frank supplied much of the offense with four hits and five RBIs.

Matt Susko went the route, and Tommy Voutsinias and Ryan Drecher powered the offense as Woodland A.C. topped Interboro, 6-2, Friday night.

Susko scattered two hits and whiffed six. Voutsinias and Drecher had two hits and two RBIs each.
