Bobby Rydell talk, book signing at UD-Sellers June 16

-

UPPER DARBY » Upper Darby Township and Sellers Memorial Free Public Library, 76 S. State Road welcome Bobby Rydell for a question and answer session followed by a book signing of his 2016 autobiography “Teen Idol on the Rocks: A Tale of Second Chances” from 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 16.

Co-written with awardwinning musician, author, and filmmaker Allan Slutsky (“Standing in the Shadows of Motown”), “Teen Idol on the Rocks” tells not only the story of Bobby Rydell but that of American pop culture through the past six decades. He writes of encounters with such 20th century show business giants as Sinatra, Ann-Margret, The Beatles, Red Skelton, Jack Benny, and Dick Clark, whose Philly-based American Bandstand helped make Rydell the world’s biggest teen idol in the years between Elvis Presley’s army induction and the advent of Beatlemania. “Teen Idol on the Rocks” is also a very personal and oftenpainful story which delves into the darker and more dramatic aspects of Rydell’s life, including the death of his beloved first wife, Camille, his decades of alcohol abuse, and the last-ditch liver and kidney transplant surgery that saved his life.

Bobby Rydell’s appearance is open to the general public and is held in the accessible Adult Room of the library. Due to time restrictions and the volume of fans, Bobby is only able to sign one piece of memorabilia per person at book signing events. Copies of his autobiography are available for purchase. Registration is required, but there will be no reserved seats. Seating begins at 5:30 p.m. For registration and information, call 610-789-4440 or visit www.udlibraries.org/ adults
