Workhorse Gonzalez pitches Blue Sox out of funk

The exact number of innings John Gonzalez threw over the last three days is not known. Let’s just say it was a lot and leave it at that.

However many innings it was, though, Gonzalez showed no signs of fatigue Monday night as the Blue Sox topped Chester, 6-1, in the Delco League.

Gonzalez went the route and allowed five hits and struck out six to help Upper Darby snap a twogame losing streak. Ed Bernard went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs to pace the offense. SPRINGFIEL­D 2, CONCORD 1 » Spencer Sohmer doubled, stole third and raced home on a throwing error by the catcher in the third inning to put the Colonials ahead to stay. Brian Bosco scatted five hits and struck out two in 5 2/3 innings to get the win. Dan Sheppard was 2-for-3 for Springfiel­d.

Nate Sides was 3-for-3 with a run scored for the Canes. In Main Line Senior Legion: Evan Moore was a one-man wrecking crew as Wayne topped Aston-Media, 3-1.

Moore did not allow an earned run in five innings. He gave up three hits and fanned three. He also doubled and was on base three times.

Cameron Miller whiffed four in two innings to earn the save. Nick Holtz (2for-2, RBI) and Jack Lee (1-for-1, walk, RBI) also came up big for Wayne. In Senior EDCO: Christian DiGalbo’s work on the mound and at the plate powered Briarcliff­e to a 10-3 victory over Garnet Valley.

DiGalbo fanned 10 in a complegame effort and also drove in two runs and scored twice. Ty Bluford (three hits, three RBIs, three runs scored) also was a key contributo­r on offense, while Eric Bradley played strong defense in left field.

Softball

Rich Swan delivered to lead Stanley Kup Inn to a 3-2 triumph over Upland A.C. in the PennDelco Over 50 league Monday night.

Swan ripped a two-run single in the fourth inning to snap a 1-1 deadlock. Marc Munafo added three hits to stake Tom Quinn to the win. In Delco Christian action: UTC Union was down to its last out in the fifth inning against Frankie’s on Fairview. One out was all UTC needed to break the game open and pull out an 8-6 victory.

UTC scored six times with two outs. The big blow was a three-run double by Anthony Lusi, who had two hits, along with Joe Duffy, Jay Fredericks and Jim Hooven. In Hook/Furey play: MRC’s bats took a siesta in opener, but woke up to carry the the squad to a 29-2 romp of Old State Tavern in Game 2 of the doublehead­er.

Calvin Butcher Sr. was 4-for-4 with five RBIs. C.J. Boyle also went 4-for-4 with four runs scored and three RBIs. Rich Larkin was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored in support of winning pitcher Joe Pace.

In Suburban Women’s Pitch:

Dawn McGrath hurled nothing but zeroes as Appco’s Sports World/Duke’s Tavern blanked Murray’s, 15-0.

Allie White (four hits), Brooke Berger (3-for-3) and Alie Alkins (2for-3, three RBIs) supplied the offense. Slow
