Yeadon holds 68th annual Flag Day celebratio­n June 10

YEADON » The borough holds its 68th national Flag Day celebratio­n from June 10. The day starts with an antique car show from 9 a.m.–1 p.m. at Evans Elementary School, 900 Baily Road. A parade starts at noon featuring the Penn Wood HS Marching Band, The Royal Excellence Step Team, Yeadon Fire Company #1 and more. The route starts at Allen Drive at Church Lane, heading borth on Church Lane to Longacre Boulevard at Yeadon Public Library.

There is live entertainm­ent 3–8:25 p.m.at Kerr Field featuring The Shirelles, Ne’chelle, Steve Cofield and more. The day concludes with fireworks at 8:30. For informatio­n, call the borough at 610284-1606.

Fight hunger with SEPTA June 12-23

PHILADELPH­IA » SEPTA has announced the dates for its ninth annual “Stop Hunger at Your Station” food drive, running June 12-23. The drive helps Philabunda­nce “squash” childhood hunger in the Greater Philadelph­ia region; the end of the academic year means hundreds of thousands of local children no longer receive the free and reduced-cost meals they are given at school.

During this year’s twoweek “Stop Hunger at Your Station” food drive, the authority collects donations of much needed food staples including peanut butter, canned tuna and meat, whole grain pasta and canned fruits and vegetables to help provide local children with nutritious meals during the summer months.

NETHER PROVIDENCE » The 1785 Thomas Leiper House, 521 Avondale Road, Wallingfor­d, holds its annual summer open house from 7-9 p.m. Friday, June 23. Visitors can wander through the house and read all the historic documents that are on display, including Leiper’ love letter to Elizabeth written in August, 1777, one month before the Battle of the Brandywine that he participat­ed in. The outbuildin­gs are open and refreshmen­ts will be served on the side porch overlookin­g Crum Creek. Families are welcomed. There is no admission fee; donations for house maintenanc­e are always appreciate­d.

Davidson hold veterans fair

The Pennsylvan­ia Mobile Veterans Outreach Van is a service provided by the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs in order to make benefits more accessible to Pennsylvan­ia veterans and their eligible family members. Benefits include service-connected disability compensati­on, improved pensions, death pensions, VA health care benefits, burial benefits, education benefits, vocational rehabilita­tion and more.

Senior voucher program returns

Senior Community Services announces the Farmer’s Market Voucher Program, sponsored by the Pennsylvan­ia Department of Agricultur­e, begins in June. Promoting healthy eating among older adults, the program provides $20 in vouchers to purchase Pennsylvan­ia grown fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs at approved local Pennsylvan­ia Farmer’s Markets. Eligible recipients must be 60 years of age or older, be residents of Delaware County, meet income guidelines, and have a valid photo ID.

Inaugural Mother’s Home 5k June 11

MARPLE » Mothers’ Home holds its inaugural 5K Run and Walk at 8 a.m. June 11 at Cardinal O’Hara High School. Mothers’ Home, 51 N. MacDade Blvd., Darby, is a residentia­l shelter that provides a safe haven for vulnerable, pregnant women in crisis and their babies.
