Marple Newtown remains red-hot in Delco League
Marple Newtown manager Nick Ducomb has tried to keep a lid on any talk about being in first place in the Delco League.
“I told the guys it’s a long season,” Ducomb said. “We have a lot of baseball left to play.”
That is true. With 24 games to play the Black Sox are only a quarter of the way through the season. Yet it’s also a fact that Marple Newtown is in sole possession of first place after Tuesday’s 4-1 triumph over Springfield at Springfield High School.
Tyler Lashley went the route to get the win. He allowed seven hits and struck out four. John Brown ripped a two-run double and Sam Freedman added a two-run single.
Elsewhere in the Delco League: CONCORD 5, MIDDLETOWN 4 » Ryan Janvier’s Delco League debut was a successful one, thanks to a big rip from Cole Gamber and some work out of the bullpen by Nate Sides.
Janvier tossed 4 1/3 innings to get the win. Gamber’s two-run homer in the fourth inning put the Canes (5-5) up to stay. He finished with two hits, as did Sides and Andrew Belfiglio. Sides closed the game out to earn the save.
In Senior EDCO baseball: ASTON VALLEY 6, FOLCROFT 3 » Five strong innings from starter Vinnie Carter and a solid defensive effort led AV to victory. Spiros Hartas and Richie June both went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Tyler Ungarino added an RBI triple in the fourth inning.
