Marple’s Hahn goes from a losing low to winning thrill in 2 days

Scott Hahn found a way to overcome the disappoint­ment of his final high school baseball game — and quickly.

Two days after Marple Newtown High’s seasonendi­ng state quarterfin­al loss, the graduating senior made his Delco League debut and a memory worth cherishing.

In his first career at-bat with Delco’s Marple Newtown squad in the nightcap of a Saturday doublehead­er, Hahn belted a three-run home run that propelled the Black Sox past Narberth, 8-4, to complete a two-game sweep of the Mudcats.

Tom Carey added an RBI double to back winning pitcher Eli Chase in the second game.

The opener saw Marple squeeze out a 3-2 victory, with Danny Kelleher earning the decision on the mound. Ben Newbert roped a two-run single, Seth Bower collected three hits and William Bendo chipped in a single and a double for the Black Sox. The Mudcats’ Mike White launched a solo home run.

Elsewhere League: SPRINGFIEL­D 3, WAYNE 0 » Sean Patterson went the in the Delco distance in tossing a fourhit shutout as the Colonials toppled Wayne out of first place.

Patterson struck out seven and walked just two in his complete-game masterpiec­e. Gabe Encarnacio­n drove in one run and scored once while Eric Bergman added an RBI single and Sean Menold had a big hit.

In Senior EDCO: BRIARCLIFF­E 8, RIDLEY 2 » Collin DiGalbo and Jim Calabrese combined for 11 strikeouts and Nick Luchetta broke the game open with a two-run single in the seventh inning, as Briarcliff­e took over sole possession of first place in the Musser Division.

Briarcliff­e’s Kevin Parks showed his versatilit­y on defense, turning in several outstandin­g plays while being utilized in the infield and outfield the game. MARPLE II 13, ASTON VALLEY 10» Eddie Brown struck out seven over five innings and drove in five runs with three hits, and reliever Ryan Everly (3 for 5, 4 RBIs) came on to snuff out a late rally by Aston Valley.

Matt Wood (3 for 4) added one RBI and Pat Carr (2 for 2) knocked in a pair for Marple II. throughout
