Haverford summer concert series kicks off June 28

HAVERFORD » The third annual Haverford Concert in the Park Summer Series is set to open June 28 and continue for five Wednesdays in different parks around the township. Snacks are available for sale at park concession stands. Guests should bring their own chairs or blankets.

The concert schedule for the 2017 summer series is:

• June 28: The Tim Williams Band and The Lauren Hart Band — Coopertown/Highland Pavilion, Highland Avenue, Bryn Mawr. Hosted by the Coopertown Service Corps and the Coopertown Civic Associatio­n.

• July 12: The Pennise Family Band — Paddock Park, 178 W. Hillcrest Ave., Havertown. Hosted by the Paddock Farms Civic Associatio­n.

• July 26: Matt Santry with Meghan Cary — Hilltop/Steel Field, 1400 Steel Road, Havertown. Hosted by the Hilltop Civic Associatio­n.

• Aug 23: The Big Jangle (a tribute to Tom Petty) with Grateful Rob — Westgate Hills Pavilion, 1614 Rose Tree Lane, Havertown. Hosted by the Westgate Hills Civic Associatio­n

• Aug. 30: Alfred James Band with Avalare Strings — Merwood Park, Wynnefield Lane and Cherry Lane, Havertown. Hosted by the Merwood Civic Associatio­n.

Step back to 18th century June 25

NEWTOWN » Visit Colonial Pennsylvan­ia Plantation, 300 N. Sandy Flash Drive, Newtown Square, welcomes historic foodways expert Clarissa Dillon to make and preserve butter from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, June 25. The demonstrat­ion is informativ­e for both adults and children. The plantation also has farm animal tours, house tours, colonial games and story time for children. There is a scavenger hunt following the story. Enjoy a day in the country that is not far from home.

Admission is $10 for adults and $6 for children ages 4 to 12. Children under age 4 are free. Last admission is at 3 p.m.

The Colonial Pennsylvan­ia Plantation is an authentic living history site with the purpose of enhancing understand­ing of 1760-90 farm life in Southeaste­rn Pennsylvan­ia by providing high quality, research based experience­s to the public. Located within Ridley Creek State Park, the 112 acres of the Colonial Pennsylvan­ia Plantation provide the context of early American history, the setting where the impact of King George’s taxes was felt, the American melting pot began to simmer, and American ingenuity took root. The plantation is open weekends March 25Nov. 26 during 2017. School programs, group tours and summer camps are available on weekdays. Davidson hold veterans fair

EAST LANSDOWNE » State Rep. Margo Davidson (DDelaware) holds her fourth annual Veterans Fair from 2-4 p.m. Thursday, June 15, at the East Lansdowne Borough Hall, 155 Lexington Ave.

Veterans and their families are invited to attend the fair where they will have the opportunit­y to learn about the services and benefits they have earned. The event features informatio­n on housing, healthcare, employment, education and more. Notary services and Pennsylvan­ia Mobile Veterans Outreach Van are on site.

The Pennsylvan­ia Mobile Veterans Outreach Van is a service provided by the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs in order to make benefits more accessible to Pennsylvan­ia veterans and their eligible family members. Benefits include service-connected disability compensati­on, improved pensions, death pensions, VA health care benefits, burial benefits, education benefits, vocational rehabilita­tion and more.

Delco comics compete Fridays

CONCORD » Reactors Comedy Club, 1110 Baltimore Pike, Glen Mills, hosts the inaugural Delaware County Comedy Competitio­n, with 28 comics competing to be crowned as best in the region.

The competitio­n starts every Friday in June, with seven comics performing a six minute set each night. The top two comedians each night move on to the finals on June 30. Voting will be made up of 50 percent audience and 50 percent judges. Each night also includes included a performanc­e from a nationally touring comedian.
