Black Sox inch closer to first-place Aston Valley

The Marple Newtown Black Sox are enjoying their best campaign in recent years. Thursday’s 5-2 victory over Concord offered another step forward in the Delco League.

Tyler Lashey struck out six in a complete game to send Marple into second place, one point behind Aston Valley. Tom Carey’s two hits and two RBIs helped Lashey, while Seth Bower and Brian Reynolds each knocked in a run.

In the Del-Mont Prep Legion: NETHER PROVIDENCE 18, SPRINGFIEL­D 7 » Sam Burman went 4-4 with two doubles and reached base all five times at bat. Mikey Valente chipped in with a 2-for-4 night and an RBI. ASTON-MEDIA BLUE 10, ASTONMEDIA ORANGE 0 » Jimmy Cage pitched four scoreless innings and helped himself at the plate with two RBIs and two hits. Roman Tozzi did his starter one better by collecting three base knocks.

In the Brookhaven-Chichester Babe Ruth: CHICHESTER BRAVES 5, CHICHESTER PIRATES 2 » The Braves swept the Pirates in the best-of-three semifinals thanks to strong pitching from Dylan Walls and the hitting of Christian Strickland. Walls struck out 11 in seven innings of work, while Strickland smacked three hits including a home run and two doubles. He drove in two runs. Jason O’Brien contribute­d two hits and two RBIs. The Braves will take on the winner of the other semifinal between the Chichester Phillies and Brookhaven Angels.

In Senior Edco action: MARPLE TIGERS 11, GARNET VALLEY 2» Drew McWilliams knocked in three runs on two hits. Teammate Brendan Tate legged out a triple, driving in two. For Garnet Valley, Sean Ellison and Dan Close had two hits apiece.

Softball

Ron Porter Browns split a split doublehead­er in the Brandywine Valley Senior League, beating Double Decker, 12-4, in the opner and dropping an 8-3 decision to St. Anthony, in the nightcap. Doug Williamson collected five hits in six at bats to pace the offense. Bruce Barton pitched both games. BOSS AUTOMOTIVE 21, LIFE SMOKE VAPORS 16 » Ron Mento, Ralph Camardelli and Bob Amis all had four hits for Boss Automotive while Bruce Gilbert, Ken Ross and Chris Scalfani matched that total for Life Smoke Vapors. BROTHERS PIZZA 10, FRED BEANS 8 » Don Erlichman, Joe Boutin and Stan Rishkofski provided the key hits for the Pizzamen. GOSHEN BEVERAGE 14, UNITED SPORTS 3 » Jose Castro provided the pop with four hits. John Farley, Bill Pfeiffer and Freddy Waldbusser chipped in three apiece.

In the Ches-Del Senior League: PATRIOTS 12, PRIDE AND JOY 1 » Rob Wolf turned three double plays in the field, wile Lou Vilotti and Ron Kummerer, with two hits each, provided the pop. OPTIMUM PHYSICAL THERAPY LEGENDS 10, SLOAN FORD 7 » Three hits including a triple from Jack Freehoff made the difference in an otherwise close game. Charlie Harvey, Gary Zimmerman and Tom Daley collected two hits each.

In the Suburban Women’s Pitch League: Slow APPCO’S SPORTS WORLD/DUKE’S TAVERN 15, KERRY CONCRETE/TAB STATION 3 » Brigid Shehan (five hits four RBIs), Jeanne Ewing and Brooke Berger (four hits, five RBIs each) wielded the big bats for the winners.

In the League: MRC 18-11, EJH/UBBIBC 3-10 » Kenny Elkind’s walk-off double in the bottom of the eighth inning completed the sweep. He went 7-for-8 with a home run, four runs scored and three RBIs. Rocco Pace was 6-for-6 and the winning pitcher in both games. Marcus

Peyton Berger and Sophia Ward combined for 20 points to lead the Cougars over Norwood, 32-19, in Springfiel­d Girls Basketball Jr. Division play. Berger led the way with 12. On other side, Olivia Halliday led Norwood with 11.

In other Jr. Division action: RIDLEY 28, SPRINGFIEL­D BLUE 19 » Jenna Jones hit double-digits with 10 for Ridley. Sophia Hunter put up a team-high seven points for Springfiel­d Blue. SPRINGFIEL­D GOLD 28, HAVERFORD 17 » Nine points from Alexis Eberz wasn’t enough for Haverford to keep pace with Springfiel­d Gold. The victors were led by Molly Clifford (nine points) and Kaylin Silverstei­n (eight).

Boys Basketball

Whether it was in the Intermedia­te League or the Senior League, no one scored more than Bryan Minott in the West Laurel Hill Springfiel­d League. Minott poured in 19 points in a 42-37 victory for Michael McCreesh Esq. over Benny’s Barber Shop in the Senior League. Michael Schafer led Benny’s Barber Shop with eight points.

In Intermedia­te League play: WESTBROOK MARKET 38, STEPHEN TODARO PT 23 » Dom Dispensa paced Westbrook Market with 11 points, while Mtty Schueneman­n scored eight in a losing effort. DIBLASI STATE FARM 42, FALCONE & TRUMAN 29 » Patrick Flaherty tallied a game-high 12 points for the winners. Noah Cini’s seven points topped Falcone & Truman.
