Delaware County will make its debut in the 32nd annual Carpenter Cup Classic Friday afternoon at Richie Ashburn Field at FDR Park.

Delco’s quest for its first Carpenter Cup title begins with a first-round game against the Inter-Ac League/Independent franchise. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.

The showcase tournament hasn’t always been kind to Delco, which had 10 one-and-done showings from 2000-2011. However, in recent years Delco has fared quite well.

Since 2012, Delco has won at least one contest in the 16-team tournament and has made three consecutive trips to the semifinal round. Last season, Delco fell to Suburban One League American/Continental, 5-4.

The Delaware County roster has representation from all 12 Central League schools, plus Sun Valley. Despite its affiliation with the Ches-Mont League, it’s common for Sun Valley players to play for their home county, rather than for the Chester County franchise.

There is no Del Val League representation on this year’s Delco squad.

The senior class includes Angus Mayock of Conestoga; Garnet Valley’s Liam Bendo; Harriton’s Lorenzo Solon, Will Hoffman, Dom DiLoreto and Ben Newbert; Marple Newtown’s Cameron Mathes and Corey Woodcock; and Strath Haven’s Will Carey and Drew Robinson.

The junior contingent consists of Garnet Valley’s Mason Miller; Harriton’s Jonah Frankel; Lower Merion’s Jake Stoller; Marple Newtown’s Luke Cantwell and Luke Zimmerman; Springfield’s Dave Bingaman and Mike Conran; Strath Haven’s Luke Mutz; Sun Valley’s Ryan Duplicki; and Upper Darby’s Christopher Anderson and Nolan Ward.

The three sophomores on the team are Marple Newtown’s Alden Mathes, Ridley’s TJ McNeely and Strath Haven’s Brady Mutz.

Haverford High coach Paul Bogosian is back at the helm of the Delaware County squad.

Team alternates include Bonner & Prendergast’s Matt Scanlon and O’Hara’s Jimmy Beakey.

The coaching staff includes Bonner & Prendergast’s Joe DeBarberie and Carroll’s Mike Costanzo.

*** The Inter-Ac/Independent roster features Episcopal Academy ace Kyle Virbitsky, who will play at Penn State next spring, and Jack O’Reilly.
