SEPTA announces summer schedules going into effect

PHILADELPH­IA » SEPTA summer transit schedules for the City, Suburban and Victory Transit divisions go into effect today, Sunday, June 18 and Monday, June 19. Most timetable adjustment­s are minor and are designed to account for seasonal changes in ridership and to improve customer service. However, SEPTA would like to alert passengers to the following service changes:

• Route 15: Due to a track renewal project, buses will replace all Route 15 trolleys through Saturday, Sept. 2.

• Routes 4 and 16: Weekday midday service level adjustment­s

• Route 66: Weekday, Saturday and Sunday OWL trip adjustment­s for service to Frankford Transporta­tion Center

• Route 93: Adjustment­s to first four Weekday eastbound AM trips to improve connection­s to the Norristown High Speed Line

• Route 94: Adjustment­s to Weekday AM service to Montgomery County Community College

• Route 117: Service will resume to Plaza 352

• Route 124: Select Saturday trips extended to Valley Forge Rd., and additional Sunday trips added to accommodat­e higher passenger volume

While timetables for some routes will go unchanged, passengers on all routes are encouraged to access updated schedules for their routes. New schedules are available at SEPTA customer locations and online at www. septa.org/schedules/upcoming-transit.html

Riders can also access real-time service informatio­n by using the official SEPTA App, which is available as a free download for both Apple and Android devices, and by following the @SEPTA Twitter feed.

Red Cross announces blood drive sites

The American Red Cross urges eligible donors to give blood this summer for hospital patients in need. Donation sites around Delaware County for late June and early July are:

Movie nights back in Springfiel­d

SPRINGFIEL­D » Springfiel­d Township begins its free family movie nights for the summer on Tuesday, June 20, with a screening of “Despicable Me 2” at 50 Powell Road on the sledding hill between the township building and library. The screening begins at dusk.

Popcorn is provided for all residents who attend. Movie nights for 2017 are: July 12, July 26 and Aug. 9.

Senior Games enter second week

Delaware County senior athletes have the chance to showcase their athletic skills in the Delaware County Senior Games as the games continue through June 23 at venues throughout the county.

More than 650 athletes compete for medals in a variety of Olympic-style sports such as golf, bowling, table tennis, horseshoes, pickleball and track & field. This year’s theme is “Age in Motion” and residents 50 and older of every skill level are encouraged to participat­e.

“We are thrilled to once again offer our residents the opportunit­y to participat­e in the Senior Games,” said Delaware County Councilman Dave White, the county’s liaison to the Department of Parks and Recreation. “The games encourage residents to stay socially and physically active throughout the year and help our residents stay healthy and also build friendship­s.”

Physical activity, even moderate, can help seniors by improving their quality of life, increasing mental capacity, preventing disease, improving healing, increasing balance, and increasing life expectancy.

Registrati­on for the games is $15 and is open to all Delaware County residents 50 and older. Registrati­on is required for all events.

The Delaware County Senior Games are sponsored by Delaware County Council, the Department of Parks and Recreation, Destinatio­n Delco, and the County of Delaware Services for the Aging (COSA). Co-chairs for the 2017 Senior Games are Marc Manfre, Director of Parks and Recreation, Tore Fiore, Director of Destinatio­n Delco, and Denise V. Stewart, Director of COSA.

Gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded in every age category and all participat­ing seniors and volunteers receive a free Senior Games T-Shirt.

Registrati­on forms are available at the County Parks Department in Rose Tree Park, at local libraries and senior centers, through the County Web site at www. co.delaware.pa.us or at the Senior Games Web site at www.delcosenio­rgames.org. People can also call the Senior Games hotline at 610891-4663.
