Delco veteran becomes first-time author at 90
H.J. Worthington has led what many would call a “normal” life. He has been a husband, father of six, grandfather of nine, accountant and a veteran. He has also embraced storytelling and has never been one to claim, “it’s too late to go after a dream.” Now, at 90, Worthington has realized one of his greatest dreams: He is a firsttime literary author with his memoir, “Farewell Amelia Mary: Long Time Looking.”
“I didn’t do this for fame or fortune,” Worthington said. “The stories and offerings in this book are from the archives of my mind. I have told the stories to the generations after me, but I wanted there to be a written history. And these events and moments from the days of Amelia Earhart to 2016 take everyone through a great deal of history. I think many people would appreciate the look back.”
“Farewell Amelia Mary: Long Time Looking” is a presentation of stories, essays, photos, epiphanies, verse and true to life vignettes. “I designed the book this way so readers could visualize what I saw through the years,” he noted. “The book invites them into my life–which is a glimpse of the world and all that was going on in the world.
Available on Amazon. com in both print and kindle format, the book is also a lesson to all of us that as we age we can still take on challenges and set extraordinary goals.
“I talked about writing this book for a long time and I like I start,” to finish what Worthington admitted. “I might have procrastinated here and there but I knew that I had to finish this project.
With one book under his belt, Worthington is looking to complete his next. “I take a lesson from one of the titles of my vignettes: ‘Get Going or you’re Gone.’”
