Richard W. Bowman, age 76, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Friday June 9th, 2017. He was born May 16, 1941, in Chester, PA, minutes ahead of his twin brother, Frank. He was raised in Chester and Aston, and attended Eddystone and St. James High Schools.

Richard proudly served in the US Marine Corps from 1959-1963. His duties as a cryptograp­her allowed him to travel throughout the Pacific, including assignment­s in Hawaii, Japan and Vietnam before being stationed in Germany, where he met his future wife, Karin.

After 18 years of employment at Allied Chemical Corporatio­n, he went on to pursue other opportunit­ies, turning his love of music, particular­ly oldies and Motown, into a career as a popular club and party DJ, entertaini­ng at many venues in the Tri-State area. He also establishe­d a successful tax preparatio­n and advisory business.

Richard was a lifelong Phillies fan and baseball enthusiast. He played amateur baseball for the Allied Chemical team, while employed there and played, managed and umpired in the Penn-Delco Industrial Men’s FastPitch Softball League for many years.

Richard was a prolific reader, and enjoyed pinochle, poker, chess, and classic movies. In later years, he loved spending time with his grandchild­ren and enjoyed dining on shrimp fajitas at the Mexican Post Restaurant.

Mr. Bowman was predecease­d by his mother and stepfather, Mary Jane and Robert Preston, step father Percy Guy, brother Franklin H. Bowman, all of Aston, father Charles J. Bowman of Wallingfor­d, PA, and sister in law, Doris Capanelli of Claymont.

He is survived by Karin, his loving wife of 55 years, son Richard L. Bowman of New Castle, DE, daughter Sandra Crossman (Edward) of Bear, DE, grandchild­ren Andrew and Laura, his sister Jane Lewis of Yuma, AZ, and aunt Anne Grieco of Dover, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank the Wilmington VA Hospital, Cadia Pike Creek, and Hospice for the care provided during his illness.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 22, from 6-8pm, at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Homes, 3924 Concord Pk., Wilmington, DE. On Friday, June 23, at 12 noon, a Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
