Pirates, spies & rogues taking over Colonial Plantation on July 8

NEWTOWN » Colonial Pennsylvan­ia Plantation hosts Pirates, Spies and Rogues Day from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, July 8. Come out to the plantation to learn about the nefarious history of the Philadelph­ia area by engaging in pirate battles, spy missions and other unsavory family-friendly activities.

Cost is $10 for adults and $6 for children ages 4-12. Visitors can try their hand at making ship biscuits, design their own pirate flag, write a secret message in invisible ink, go on a treasure hunt and more.

The plantation is located at 3900 North Sandy Flash Drive, Newtown Square. Last admission is at 3 p.m. The Colonial Pennsylvan­ia Plantation is an authentic living history site with the purpose of enhancing understand­ing of 1760-90 farm life in Southeaste­rn Pennsylvan­ia by providing high quality, research based experience­s to the public. The plantation is open weekends March 25-Nov. 26. School programs, group tours and summer camps are available on weekdays. Marple seniors meet June 21

MARPLE » Marple Senior Citizen’s Advisory Commission holds its monthly meeting at 1 p.m. June 21 at the township administra­tion building, 227 S. Sproul Road, Broomall. Township Commission­er John Longacre is this month’s speaker, talking about items of interest and concern in Marple Township. All are welcome. Refreshmen­ts and a chance to socialize follow the meeting.

Reprieve for Pa. tax delinquent­s

The Pennsylvan­ia Tax Amnesty program is underway through June 19. Eligible individual­s and businesses can apply and pay past-due state taxes to benefit from having all penalties waived and the interest cut by half. This window of opportunit­y is a chance for thousands of individual­s and businesses to relieve the burden of unpaid taxes.

Those eligible include individual­s and businesses with: Unpaid or underpaid taxes as of the end of 2015; Unfiled tax returns for periods due on or before December 31, 2015.

Delinquent taxpayers known to the Department of Revenue will receive a written notice by mail informing them of tax delinquenc­ies and the PA Tax Amnesty program.

To apply, visit www.backtax.pa.gov or call 844-PA-STATE-TAX (844727-8283); next submit an applicatio­n, file all required returns and make the payment (all penalties will be waived and the interest will be cut in half). All applicatio­ns, required returns and payments are due by midnight June 19.

Havertown Irish fest announces line up

HAVERFORD » The inaugural Havertown Irish Festival from noon-9 p.m. Saturday, June 24. The day long outdoor festival celebrates the music, food, folklore, sports and way of life of Ireland. Fr. Kevin Gallagher, pastor of The festival takes place in the rear parking lot of Manoa Shopping Center. St. Denis Church, serves as the festival grand marshal.

The festival open with the Havertown Irish Festival Procession of Dignitarie­s led by the Philadelph­ia Emerald Society Pipe Band featuring Havertown Township leaders, businesspe­ople, and residents. Performers include:

• 7:45 — Galway Guild Along with all day music, the festival features food from area restaurant­s and bars. Irish associatio­ns, guilds, and clubs present their areas of expertise and celebrate Irish culture, legends and traditions. Vendors and nonprofit groups are also on hand.

The Havertown Irish Festival is produced by Kelly Music for Life, a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to improving lives and communitie­s through music. The event benefits local music programs, the Kelly Music Center Project and other community initiative­s. The Havertown Irish Festival will be streamed live on iRadioPhil­ly.
