Climate talk: What will happen to our grandkids if we ignore climate change
In 1954, Albert Einstein issued an advisory, “We shall need a substantially new way of thinking if humanity to survive.”
Then in 1962, Rachel Carson forewarned “Man’s attitude toward nature is today critically important simply because we have now acquired a fateful power to alter and destroy nature. But man is a part of nature, and his war against nature is inevitably a war against himself. [We are] challenged as mankind has never been challenged before to prove our maturity and our mastery not of nature, but of ourselves.“
Climate Change challenges mankind as it has never been challenged before. If humanity does not prove its maturity and mastery to fix Climate Change, future generations (like my grandchildren) will be confronted by a planet and a nature that does not support their Is prosperity.
According to the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), scientists are documenting the effects of climate-related shifts, which largely stem from global warming caused by humans and which are already affecting daily life.
The following are EDF examples of extra warmth changing climate conditions and weather patterns:
The frozen water Earth is melting.
The ice Arctic animals need is vanishing.
Weather is getting more extreme.
Rising sea levels make storm surges capable of much greater damage.
In more naturally arid areas, droughts wildfires intensify.
The oceans are getting hotter, expanding and becoming more acidic.
Climate change is a major threat to agriculture.
Infrastructure and transportation are at risk.
Coral and shellfish are suffering.
Forests are more prone to deadly infestations.
Human life and prosperity suffer as the climate shifts.
The negative impact of global warming like those above on our planet can be fixed if humans aggressively endorse the Citizen’s Climate Lobby’s (CCL) Carbon Fee and Dividend (CF&D).
The Carbon Fee on and and Dividend (CF&D) a national, revenue-neutral carbon fee-and-dividend system (CF&D) would place a predictable, steadily rising price on carbon, with all fees collected minus administrative costs returned to households as a monthly energy dividend.
A study of the effect of a revenue-neutral carbon price on the American economy concluded that such a system would have strong positive economic effects on the nation’s health and prosperity alike.
Study analysis concluded that, during the first 20 years alone, a CF&D policy would lead to:
A 50 percent reduction of carbon emissions below 1990 levels.
The addition of 2.8 million jobs above baseline, driven by the steady economic stimulus of the energy dividend.
The avoidance of 230,000 premature deaths due to reduction in air pollutants that often accompany carbon emissions.
If humans substantially adopt CF&D as Einstein’s new way of thinking to fix Climate Change, future generations (like my grandchildren) will have a better chance of survival and prosperity in the future.
