Celebrate Make Music Day at Ridley and Middletown Wednesday

Ridley Public Library and Middletown Free Library host celebrates for Make Music Day on Wednesday, sponsored by area music advocacy organizati­on Keep Music Alive. The two events and musicians scheduled to perform are:

• Ridley Public Library, 100 E. MacDade Blvd., Folsom, from 6-7:30 p.m. with Ray Naylor, Vincent James, Iyona Laurrel, Becca Gohn and Jessica Graae

• Middletown Free Library, 21 Pennell Road, Lima, from 6:30-8:35 p.m. with Vincent James, Jeff Twardzik, Valerie West, Katie Barbato and Alyssa Dodge

The Middletown Free Library event also joins hundreds of locations worldwide celebratin­g the inaugural Global Jam 4 Peace with all musicians present performing the peace anthem “Set Me Free” at 8:30 p.m. The main GJ4P event is held in Washington, D.C. from 5-8:30 p.m. at the Sylvan Theater next to the Washington Monument.

Make Music Day first began in France 35 years ago as Fête De La Musique and has spread to over 120 countries. Held every year on the Summer Solstice, the premise of Make Music Day is for amateur and profession­al musicians to share their musical gifts by performing in both indoor and outdoor venues where the public can freely enjoy and celebrate the joy of music.

Children’s programs at Norwood

NORWOOD » Norwood Library, 513 Welcome Ave., welcomes back Matt Mazur and his high energy, interactiv­e music and fantastica­l fun from almost preschoole­rs to almost middle schoolers. The “Turtle Dance” is set for 10 a.m. Monday, June 26, at the library.

Preschool Connection­s is back on for the summer. Children ages 3-5 are welcomed to come and enjoy music theory learning with Miss Katie Dunn at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 27.

Also on Tuesday, June 27th, Pre-K children accompanie­d by their favorite adult can come in out of the sweltering heat to check out some fun activities that may help in preparing for their learning experience­s in Kindergart­en. These Playscapes learning activities are available from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Registrati­on is not required.

Students entering grades 6-8 may visit the library’s “Thursday After Dinner Movie” at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 29, with a screening of “Clue.” Just like the board game, guests can see if they can solve the murder. Due to limited seating, registrati­on is required. Stop in before

Summer reading starts at Upper Chi

UPPER CHICHESTER » Upper Chichester Library, 3374 Chichester Ave., #19, Boothwyn, welcomes schoolchil­dren in grades K-5 to “build a better world” by participat­ing in its summer reading program. Program runs June 20-Aug. 15, and prizes are awarded for reading goals through Aug. 31. Children must register at the first-come, first-served basis.

Children should read one book or read for 60 minutes and prizes are awarded for their efforts through Aug. 31. Miss Jenn hosts the programs, which are held Tuesdays at 2 p.m. The schedule is:

Hear dance history at UD-Sellers

UPPER DARBY » Rochelle Christophe­r, owner of Victorian Vanities, Inc., discusses “The 10 Greatest Dancers of the 20th Century” at the Upper Darby/ Sellers Library, 76 S. State Road, at 2 p.m. Friday, June 23. Rochelle is a dynamic and energetic independen­t historian and speaker who delights audiences with exciting, events. Her multimedia presentati­on showcases 10 dancers selected for their fame, popularity, and influence around the globe (there are no live dance routines during the program).

The one-hour program is free and open to the general public. It is held in the library’s second floor meeting room. Please note that there is no elevator. Light refreshmen­ts are available. Chair Yoga returns to Aston

ASTON » The library, 3720 Concord Road, holds free Chair Yoga classes at 11 a.m. Saturdays for six weeks starting July 1. Chair Yoga is a gentle form of yoga that is practiced sitting in a chair or standing, using a chair for support. It is appropriat­e for adults of ages and fitness levels.
