PECO worker killed working on wires in Radnor
RADNOR » A PEOC employee died while working on wires on the 700 block of Berwood Road early Wednesday morning. The worker, who apparently was electrocuted, was found at around 5:22 a.m., said Radnor Police Superintendent William Colarulo. Personnel from the county Medical Examiner’s office were at the scene and determined that electrocution was the cause of death, Colarulo said.
The 62-year-old man, whose name was withheld while his next of kin were being notified, appeared to have died accidentally while trying to restore power to that area, said Deputy Superintendent Andrew Block. Police officers had responded to the area after a report of a power outage and saw the PECO truck with its bucket extended. They spoke to the worker but he did not respond. Bryn Mawr Fire Co. and Radnor fire ambulance responded to the scene, said Block. “It appears that he was accidentally electrocuted while he trying to restore the power,” Block said.
Ben Armstrong, a PECO spokesman, said the cause of the accident is being investigated by both local officials and regulators.
“At this time our thoughts and prayers are with his family,” said Armstrong. “As first responders to natural disasters and power outages, safety continues to be paramount for our employees, citizens and the communities we serve.” industry
