Visit 18th century this weekend at Colonial Plantation, Leiper House
NEWTOWN » Visit Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation, 300 N. Sandy Flash Drive, Newtown Square, welcomes historic foodways expert Clarissa Dillon to make and preserve butter from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday. The demonstration is informative for both adults and children. The plantation also has farm animal tours, house tours, colonial games and story time for children. There is a scavenger hunt following the story. Enjoy a day in the country that is not far from home.
Admission is $10 for adults and $6 for children ages 4-12. Children under age 4 are free. Last admission is at 3 p.m.
The Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation is an authentic living history site with the purpose of enhancing understanding of 1760-90 farm life in Southeastern Pennsylvania by providing high quality, research based experiences to the public. Located within Ridley Creek State Park, the 112 acres of the Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation provide the context of early American history, the setting where the impact of King George’s taxes was felt, the American melting pot began to simmer, and American ingenuity took root. The plantation is open weekends March 25-Nov. 26. School programs, group tours and summer camps are available on weekdays. See historic Wallingford house Friday
NETHER PROVIDENCE » The 1785 Thomas Leiper House, 521 Avondale Road, Wallingford, holds its annual summer open house from 7-9 p.m. Friday, June 23. Visitors can wander through the house and read all the historic documents that are on display, including Leiper’ love letter to Elizabeth written in August, 1777, one month before the Battle of the Brandywine that he participated in. The outbuildings are open and refreshments will be served on the side porch overlooking Crum Creek. Families are welcomed. There is no admission fee; donations for house maintenance are always appreciated.
Lansdowne announces 4th of July events
LANSDOWNE » The borough starts its Independence Day celebrations on July 4 with a parade at 9 a.m. to Penn Wood High School football field. Prizes are given for best decorated bikes, marchers, large and small floats. At the field there will be music, the introduction of our Parade Marshal, a few short speeches, family games and activities, and free water ice for children. Evening events are held at the field with hot dogs, cotton candy and other snacks. Fireworks begin at 9 a.m. enjoyed while you listen to great music and visit with your neighbors. Delco comics compete Fridays
CONCORD » Reactors Comedy Club, 1110 Baltimore Pike, Glen Mills, hosts the inaugural Delaware County Comedy Competition, with 28 comics competing to be crowned as best in the region.
The competition starts every Friday in June, with seven comics performing a six minute set each night. The top two comedians each night move on to the finals on June 30. Voting will be made up of 50 percent audience and 50 percent judges. Each night also includes included a performance from a nationally touring comedian.

Darlington Arts announces programs
CONCORD » Darlington Arts Center, 977 Shavertown Road, Garnet Valley, announces that its Arts Center’s Camp Creativity is now open for registration. Darlington’s camp includes 11 weeks of full or halfday camps in music, art, dance and drama for ages 3-12. Darlington also features weeks of art-intensive camps for ages 5-14.
Darlington Arts Center also features an arts-integrated Preschool program for area families for the 2017-18 school year. Other programs at the center include classes and lessons in music, art, dance and drama for children and adults, and Darlington’s professional art gallery and Coffee House Concerts.
