Upper Darby’s Thorpe no-hits Chester in win
A little bit of rain and lightning wasn’t enough to sidetrack Ben Thorpe Wednesday night, as the Upper Darby ace struck out six in pitching a no-hitter in the Blue Sox’ 7-0 blanking of Chester in Delco League baseball.
Noah Brisach paced a balanced attack with a 3-for-4, 5-RBI performance, including a grand slam in the first inning that gave Thorpe all the cushion he would need. Dan Hyatt picked up the win with two innings of relief, combining with starter Zach Rumford on a three-hit shutout. Rob Caruso collected three hits for the league-leading Knights (11-4-1), while Andrew Belfiglio threw seven scoreless innings for Concord. In the BCMV Babe Ruth League: Christian Strickland plated three runs with two hits and Greyson Fulker roped a two-run double that broke the game open in the fifth inning, allowing the Braves to pound the Phillies, 12-1, and complete a two-game sweep of the championship series.
Jason O’Brien allowed just two hits while fanning seven for the Braves, who capped their 16-1 season in dominant fashion. In Senior EDCO: Christian DiGalbo and reliever Paul Shepherd teamed up to pitch a gem, as Briarcliffe regained sole possession of first place in the Musser Division with an 8-1 triumph over Folcroft .
DiGalbo, who also contributed two hits and a pair of RBIs, gave up one hit over the first four innings before yielding the mound to Shepherd, whoadded a hit and scored once. Ty Bluford reached base all four times he came to the plate and drove in a pair for Briarcliffe, which improved to 8-2.
