TWO-WOMAN CRIME WAVE

Upper Darby cops seek duo who hit cabbies, and also assaulted 86-year-old woman in heist

Police have ramped up the search for the gun molls who robbed two cab drivers hours apart last week and attacked two women as they walked out of a house in the same neighborhood.

The robbers were described as “worthless scumbags and violent predators” by Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood for attacking and hitting an 86-year-old woman in the most recent incident reported 9:51 a.m. on Friday, June 23, on the first block of Kent Road.

“It’s the same women committing these holdups,” Chitwood said. “It’s the same M.O. and the same physical description except in the third one involving the two female victims when they were seen getting into the back seat of a car.”

According to Chitwood, the string of robberies began after two taxi drivers were dispatched to separate locations on June 19.

A 35-year-old cab driver, employed with Get A Cab, was dispatched to the 100 block of Glendale Road to pick up a fare 9:30 p.m. June 19.

“One of the women approached and then a second woman came up to the driver’s side with a firearm,” Chitwood said. “She held the gun to the driver’s head and demanded money. He handed over about $100 and the two robbers ran away.

“Next, less than two hours later at 11:30 p.m. it was the same thing. The driver, 43, employed by County Cab, was dispatched to Copley Road and one of the women opened the door and put the gun to his head. He handed over $90.”

Chitwood announced police are working with the cell phone provider in order to determine ownership of the phone used to dispatch the cab drivers.

The most recent incident occurred Friday morning after two women walked out of a house on the unit block of Kent Road. A vehicle, described as a dark Chevy Impala sedan, pulled up and two women got out, approached and demanded their handbags at gunpoint.

The victims, ages 86 and 52, are from Ecuador visiting family and do not speak English.

“Welcome to America,” Chitwood said. “The 86-year-old resisted and one of the predators hit her on the arm with the gun. They dropped the purses to the ground. The robbers grabbed the bags and jumped into the back of the car. So a third one is involved in this case.”

A total of $900 and two cell phones were stolen in the robbery purse snatches.

“The one on Friday was the really bad one because the woman was struck with the gun and suffered a bruise,” Chitwood said. “It was black and blue but she did not need hospital treatment. We did have to talk to a 16-yearold relative of the victims who could speak English for a description of the incident.”

The chief determined the robberies were random but they knew what they were doing. “They’re worthless violent predators, real scumbags,” Chitwood said. “When you hold a gun to someone’s head that’s being a violent predator. My concern is they are going to use the gun and shoot someone.”

Police described the robbers as black females wearing all black, approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall, medium build and one heavier than the other. Their hair was pulled back in a bun.

Anyone with information on the robberies should call Upper Darby police at 610-734-7693.
