UPPER DARBY » Police released surveillance video of two men ransacking the office of a business in Drexeline Shopping Center after tying an employee’s hands with a zip tie.
Police believe the robbery is an inside job because of the random hit, ransacking and search in the office, Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said.
One of the men was dressed like a trash man wearing a white hard hat, a white surgical mask and bright yellow vest imprinted with the word sanitation in capital letters when he entered Edible Arrangements, 5057 State Road, through the open back door shortly before noon on Saturday, June 24.
The accomplice was dressed in black and was wearing a black cap. His face was covered with a dark scarf.
“They entered through the back door and were both armed with handguns,” Chitwood said. “They knew how to get in, they hit the employee, held a gun to his head and tied him up with a zip tie.”
According to Chitwood, the robbers were looking for a lot of money but didn’t find it.
“They knew there was a significant amount of money in the store and they missed it and only got $100,” Chitwood said. “We can see them ransacking the office looking for the money in the video. They were only inside for about 10 minutes. It’s a small store. This is an inside job. This is a stone set up and remains under investigation.”
The victim, 19, of Clifton Heights, ran to a nearby restaurant for help after the gunmen left.
