Helen M. Choate of Upper Darby, died on Wednesday June 21, 2017 at her home at the Quadrangle, in Haverford, PA, after a short illness.

She was born in Chester and graduated in 1950 from Notre Dame High School. She went on to earn a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvan­ia in 1958, a Master’s Degree from Middlebury College in 1964, and a Ph. D. in Medieval and Modern French Language and Literature from Bryn Mawr College.

Helen taught English and French at Community College of Philadelph­ia from 1966 to 1999, and was an active member of the Alliance Francaise for many years.

She travelled to many places, in fact she lived in Paris for a number of years, and always was excited to share her adventures. Later in life, she loved to knit, and make beautiful clothes for her grand nieces, nephews, and a host of charitable organizati­ons.

She joins her brother James Maillie, (deceased), and leaves her sister, Mary Schwartz, and brothers Frank (Kathy) and Robert Maillie (Nancy), nephews Robert Schwartz (Helen), David Schwartz, Robert Maillie Jr. (Christina), nieces Suzanne Schwartz, Jana Abel (Ed), Kim Maillie, and Jennifer Maillie Dooms (Mark), grandnephe­ws Robert Schwartz Jr (KC), Ian Schwartz, Conner and Tyler Ressler, Garrett Thorne, Cameron Hoveland, and grandniece, Katelyn Rapson (Andrew) as well as a number of very good friends.

A Celebratio­n of Life will be held by the family at a later date.
