Eddystone OKs $110G for sewer rehabilitation work
EDDYSTONE » Council gave approval at its June meeting to award a sanitary sewer rehabilitation contract to A.J. Jurich at a cost of $110,460, even though the 2016 federal Community Development Block Grant is $10,460 less than the bid. Council will ask the Office of Housing and Community Development for additional funding. But if that is not forthcoming, then the borough will pay the shortfall out of its sewer fund.
The 2015 CDBG award of $25,000 for installation of four welcome signs will go to the second low bidder, Nova Industries of Williamstown, N.J. Foreman Sign submitted the low bid but then withdrew its bid because of a mistake.
Council decided to cancel an $8,876 contract with Aerial Signs for street sign replacement in favor of having the borough’s Public Works Department handle the installation.
Upgrades to the Dorothy Gotthardt Playground, an alternate project under a 2014 CDBG of $50,000, will include spring riders, a see saw and pavilion. The application for the project has been completed and forwarded to the OHCD for review.
In another matter, council accepted the resignation of Code Enforcement Officer Dallas Walters, who is moving from the area. John Lyman, who has been serving as the building inspector, will now be the building code official. Evan Hosbach will continue as plumbing inspector and will also work in the code enforcement office.
Council members thanked Walters for his many years of service to the borough.
