SEPTA announces Independence Day schedule changes
PHILADELPHIA » All SEPTA Regional Rail, bus, trolley, Market Frankford, Broad Street and Norristown High Speed Lines will operate on a Sunday schedule on Tuesday, July 4, with additional late-night service to accommodate holiday revelers from the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.
Market-Frankford Line: A total of ten extra trains will be dispatched starting at 4:30 p.m. to provide service every five minutes. These extra trips will run until 12:30 a.m. to help customers get home after the event. Market-Frankford Line Night Owl buses will replace trains at 12:30 a.m. SEPTA’s 15th Street Station provides riders access to and from the Parkway festivities.
• Broad Street Line: Eight extra trains will be dispatched starting at 4:30 p.m. to provide service every five minutes. These service levels will remain in effect until 12:30 a.m., when Night Owl bus service will replace trains. Several Broad Street Line stations are within walking distance of the event, including Spring Garden, RaceVine and City Hall.
• Regional Rail: Select Regional Rail trains will be added to the service schedule for customers leaving Center City Philadelphia after the concert and fireworks on the Ben Franklin Parkway. Late night trains will serve Airport terminals, Chestnut Hill East, Chestnut Hill West, Doylestown, Fox Chase, Malvern, Media/Elwyn, Marcus Hook, Trenton, Warminster, West Trenton and Wilmington Stations. • Trolleys: Additional trips will be added on Routes 10, 11, 13, 34 and 36 after the fireworks as needed. • Buses: Bus Routes 7, 32, 33, 38, 43, and 48 will operate on a temporary detour in the area surrounding the Ben Franklin Parkway beginning Tuesday, July 4 at 4 a.m. and continuing until 1 a.m., Wednesday, July 5. Marple GOP announces fall speakers
MARPLE » Marple Council of Republican Women announces that District Attorney Jack Whelan and Sheriff Mary McFall Hopper are the speakers for the 7 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Marple Township building. Register of Wills Jennifer Holstein Maddaloni is the speaker at the Oct. 16 meeting.
Movie nights back in Springfield
SPRINGFIELD » Springfield Township begins its free family movie nights for the summer on Tuesday, June 20, with a screening of “Despicable Me 2” at 50 Powell Road on the sledding hill between the township building and library. The screening begins at dusk.
Popcorn is provided for all residents who attend. Movie nights for 2017 are: July 12, July 26 and Aug. 9.
Go rogue at Colonial Plantation
NEWTOWN » Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation hosts Pirates, Spies and Rogues Day from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, July 8. Come out to the plantation to learn about the nefarious history of the Philadelphia area by engaging in pirate battles, spy missions and other unsavory familyfriendly activities. Cost is $10 for adults
and $6 for children ages 4-12. Visitors can try their hand at making ship biscuits, design their own pirate flag, write a secret message in invisible ink, go on a treasure hunt and more.
The plantation is located at 3900 North Sandy Flash Drive, Newtown Square. Last admission is at 3 p.m. The Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation is an authentic living history site with the purpose of enhancing understanding of 1760-90 farm life in Southeastern Pennsylvania by providing high quality, research based experiences to the public. The plantation is open weekends March 25-Nov. 26. School programs, group tours and summer camps are available on weekdays.
